The bout between undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and the Filipino congressman in Manny Pacquiao could have been two months from now.  Instead, the only battle the world can see is a battle of words.

Mayweather appeared on Costas Tonight and said some things regarding the mega-fight we all would like to see.  Mayweather stated that Manny Pacquiao is not worth a 50/50 split.  The egocentric athlete Mayweather is, he continues to say that as long as he is the face of boxing, no fighter that fights him gets half of the check.  Either Pacquiao agrees to the straight up $40 million that does not include a piece of the potentially massive Pay-Per-View check that Mayweather wants all for himself.

Aside from the financial aspect of the mega-fight, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. made the reason clear why he does not want to face Pacquiao.  Mayweather believes his own health is his main priority.  He stated, “One shot can end your whole career.  Boxing is a very deadly sport.”

From that statement alone, this comes down to Mayweather fearing that Pacquiao can, indeed, knock him out and potentially deliver his first loss in his career.  The undefeated boxer also talks about “self-preservation”, which pretty much solidifies his narcissistic personality.  Self-preservation of what?  Perhaps he is referring to the fact that Manny Pacquiao can possibly give him his first loss of his professional career and he would rather preserve that “undefeated” record.

Mayweather will be serving a 90-day jail sentence.  Perhaps Pacquiao’s camp can get a hold of Mayweather’s camp without Mayweather present and get this mega-fight happen already.  The longer they wait, the older they get and the faster the fans will lose interest.
