Undefeated boxer, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has sparked some controversy on the Twitter airwaves.  Mayweather tweeted:

Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he’s Asian.

Moments later, the boxer would later tweet:

I’m speaking my mind on behalf of other NBA players.

All of this is coming from an individual who has publicly supported Black American athletes and also has a record of launching a barrage of racist and homophobic slurs towards Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.  Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is known to have a critical mouth, but perhaps this has gone a tad bit too far.  His trash talking does well to inject some financial interest into his boxing matches, but not so much with this rant towards Jeremy Lin.

Lin is of Taiwanese descent and is the first American-born Taiwanese to play in the NBA and has brought some life back into the New York Knickerbockers.  He is the first player to total up 136 points (and counting) in his first five career starts since the ABA/NBA merger in 1976.  That alone is one heck of a feat to achieve.

For Mayweather, perhaps Lin going “undefeated” as an Ivy League-educated youngster instills some jealousy in the boxer’s eyes.  Lin is classified as a winner already and winning is all the boxer knows.  The boxer also make a point in his Twitter rant that Black American athletes achieve this on a nightly basis and receive no credit.  On the other hand, to include race is just out of the question.  This is about pure athletic ability and skill from a kid with a degree from Harvard that would go undrafted in the NBA, bounced around in the D-League, and still have the fire in him to carry a history-laden franchise.
