This morning we reported that Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero was arrested while trying to board a plane from JFK Airport in New York City to Las Vegas with a handgun on him.  Guerrero, the interim WBC welterweight champ, was arrested with an unloaded .40-cal Smith & Wesson semi-automatic on his way to a the 8:10 a.m. Delta flight 1429, according to reports. The boxer had no ammo with him. Golden Boy Promotions, Guerrero Promotions, and Mayweather Promotions just released a joint statement on the matter. LOS ANGELES (March 28) – Early this morning Six-Time and Four Division World Champion Robert Guerrero was checking in his luggage at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, bound for Las Vegas, and, as he was doing so, made sure to advise the authorities that they needed to be aware that he had a firearm, which was unloaded and in a locked safe box with his luggage to be checked. Guerrero was carrying no ammunition and was within his legal right to possess such firearm in the state in which he resides. He was then arrested. At an arraignment held before the New York State Supreme Court for Queens County, the court, after hearing the pertinent facts of the case, released Guerrero on his own recognizance. The next hearing in this matter is scheduled for after Robert’s May 4 fight against Eight-Time and Five-Division World Champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather. We are very pleased Robert Guerrero was released on his own recognizance this afternoon in the wake of this incident and that he is on his way back to Las Vegas to continue training for his highly anticipated May 4 bout against Mayweather. As of right now, there’s no reason to believe that the highly anticipated May 4 bout is any jeopardy of being, pushed back, rescheduled, or canceled. The worst that will probably happen over the next few weeks is media types and pundits accusing Guerrero of staging this gun incident so that he could get himself out of the fight with Mayweather. I’ve seen several comments on different forums accusing Guerrero of trying to sabotage the biggest fight of his life.  I don’t for a minute believe that’s the case, but Guerrero does need to keep a low profile and focus, because he just gave Floyd plenty of ammo to take shots at him, no pun intended.
