Fight Hub TV:
It was a shocking main event last night at The Stub Hub Center as veteran hard punching Jhonny Gonzalez reclaimed his WBC featherweight title by knocking out friend Abner Mares in the first round of their Showtime main event. Both fighter had practically not even warmed up as Gonzalez landed a perfect left hook in the final minute of the first stanza.
Mares, showing true heart and grit got right back up and continued to fight instead of clinching. This ultimately would be his undoing as on still shaky legs he was caught with a flurry of punches that sent him down to the mat for the second time. The referee in charge had seen enough and Gonzalez scored what was the biggest upset of the year so far in boxing.
Our man Marcos Villegas was able to catch up with Gonzalez as he talks what it meant for him to reclaim his title after everyone doubted him and his decision to use the left hook instead of boxing Mares as originally planned.

What an upset. But it made sense. It's the kind that can always happen when you're in the ring against someone with Jhonny Gonzalez's dynamite, as Abner Mares discovered Saturday on Showtime. Mares, in his second fight at featherweight and climbing the pound-for-pound rankings of best fighters in any division, couldn't make it out of the very 1st round as Gonzalez...
This loss should not affect Mares rise to stardom!
That's Canelo Alvarez getting his romance novel cover on, from a still from Saturday's episode of All Access. The episode gave people plenty of things to laugh about and talk about besides Canelo's topless bareback adventure, which marks an improvement from the Showtime series' handling of Floyd Mayweather's last fight. We had Mayweather vocally hoping that the...

Enough of that pseudo-musical nonsense. You come here for boxing.
We may be due for a really crappy weekend of fighting, but don't tell the boxing gods that. Two supposedly ho-hum weekends in a row turned into inspiring ones -- depending on who you were rooting...
