Manny Pacquiao Aiming For Return To Boxing At The 2024 Summer Olympics

Manny Pacquiao is close to finalizing an agreement to represent the Phillippines at the upcoming Summer Olympics.

Pacquiao is working with the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines to waive the age limit for Olympic-level boxers. As of this writing, Olympic qualifying boxers have to be younger than 40 years old to compete, and Pacquiao is 44.

Pacquiao, who retired from professional boxing after a loss to Yordenis Ugas in 2021, returned at an exhibition last year. He defeated DK Yoo by unanimous decision.

Eumir Felix Marcial is the only Filipino boxer who has qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. He earned a silver medal in his last Olympic appearance.

If approved for competition, Pacquiao will need to select to compete at either lightweight (63.5kg) or welterweight (71kg) for the Olympics. He competed at welterweight for the majority of his boxing career.

Pacquiao is regarded as arguably an all-time boxing great in the modern era of the sport. In his prime, he defeated the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Timothy Bradley, and Adrien Broner inside the ring.

The Phillippines haven't earned an Olympic gold medal in their Olympic boxing history. They've earned eight silver/bronze medals for Olympic boxing.

Pacquiao will look to turn back the clock and put on another impressive performance on the world stage. An Olympic medal would cap off a remarkable career for the 44-year-old Filipino.
