Manny Pacquiao is already a congressman in the Philippines, and the Filipino boxer says he is considering running for president in his home country one day.

Pacquiao did several interviews on Saturday to promote his upcoming fight with Brandon Rios in China. In an interview with the AFP, he was asked whether he has thought about running for president in his country, and he said yes.

“When I started boxing, of course I was planning, you know, and thinking about getting to become a champion. So when I enter politics it’s the same thing.

“But, you know, it’s far away,” Pacquiao told AFP, adding: “It’s God’s will.”

Pac-Man is 34 years old and coming off consecutive losses, including a devastating knockout defeat to Juan Manuel Marquez that left many concerned about the Filipino’s health. Pacquiao’s family was worried about his well-being, and his mother wants him to stop fighting. Manny says he has been ignoring those concerns as he prepares to face Rios in November, but he knows the end of his fight career is nearing.

Trainer Freddie Roach already said he won’t train Pacquiao any more if the Filipino loses his next fight, which would make it three defeats in a row.

Pacquiao is in his second term as a congressman. He has filed five bills in the country’s house of representatives, mostly related to improving healthcare and fitness. He has also taken an anti-contraceptive stance. Pacquiao’s wife, Jinkee, has also entered politics in the Philippines. She won her election this year to become vice president of a province.

  • Well he would make as good a president as the rest have. He is a champion and knows hard work...and is in contact with the people.. more power to him if he does run
  • Manny Pacquiao running for President??? Helllllpppp!! He hasn't accomplished anything as a Congressman, what with 90% of his time promoting his boxing events, TV gigs, advertisements, and other "extra curricular activities." But then again, this is the Philippines, where politics are dominated by movie and TV stars, the daughter/son/spouse/mistress/sibling of an incumbent politician, etc. etc.
  • One of the big downfalls of countries is a severe shortage of leadership quality people in government.
Just because you can run your mouth real smooth and people know your name, you aren't necessarily going to be any good at what you intend to do.
It's the Peter Principle all over again.

  • That must be a typo, surely you meant George W.Bush when referencing leadership FAILURE......

Johnny Damon makes crazy comments about comeback

To say Johnny Damon is modest would be an understatement. Prior to the 2014 season, the former outfielder announced to the world that he was available to play and/or manage…but only at the Major League level.  Now, the 40-year-old would like the world to know that he’s better than half of the guys out there earning a paycheck swinging a bat on a daily basis. “When you feel...

Fulham manager and former German national team player Felix Magath ripped Landon Donovan via Facebook on Friday for being critical of Jurgen Klinsmann and the US National Team. Al Davis loved idea of moving Raiders to Las Vegas

Do Raiders fans ever get sick of the re-location rumors? Decades of constant moving, moving back, rumors of moving back to the place they moved from and then moved back to but decided not to move from before moving back to that place, have produced more excitement than the franchise’s on-field product over the past decade. NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle with Raiders owner Al Davis...

How much recruiting did Derrick Rose do with Carmelo?

Being perfectly honest, I don’t think Derrick Rose is really interested in Carmelo Anthony coming to the Chicago Bulls. But that’s not something he’d publicly admit to. During Melo’s trip to Chicago on Wednesday, it was reported that DRose had changed his stance on not recruiting the Knicks forward, by working out for Melo and attending dinner. But now, it seems as if those...

The Los Angeles Clippers have been rumored to have interest in signing Paul Pierce, who has obvious ties to current Clippers coach Doc Rivers. However, a sign and trade with the Nets is really the only plausible way the Clips can do so while meeting a reasonable figure for Pierce financially.
