Justice Adjustment

Timothy Bradley won a split decision Saturday night against Manny Pacquiao. I didn’t watch the fight, but only caught the highlights and replays. That said, you don’t have to be a boxing aficionado to realize that this outcome smells like sh*t. The result has been universally scoffed at by pundits, promoters and pretty much everyone who watched the fight. Even Bradley questioned whether he’d earned the victory saying he’d have to go home and watch the tape to see if he’d won. Always a good sign…

Well, at least one online gambling site is not allowing the rotten stench of the stinker to linger — even with their bettors who lost on the fight. Paddypower.com, an Irish site, is refunding Pacquiao bets. It seems they don’t feel the decision was just and aren’t comfortable taking their users’ money on a bogus bout. In what they call a  “Justice Payout,” Paddy Power’s blog breaks down the details:

It was a result that stunned the world, even by modern professional boxing standards.

Last night in Las Vegas the brilliant Filipino Manny Pacquiao lost his WBO welterweight belt to Timothy Bradley in a controversial split-decision defeat.

With that Paddy Power has rolled out one of our famous Justice Payouts. If you had placed a bet on Manny to win in a pre-fight outright or on points, that money is now back in your account. We Hear You!

It’s nice to see. While corruption may reign supreme in professional boxing, it’s comforting to know we can turn to a few last bastions of moral conscience – like online gambling sites. If nothing else, a great PR move by the folks at Paddypower.com. Well played, gents.
