Oscar De La Hoya has no problem kicking a man while he’s down. The former champion turned Golden Boy Promotions head made sure to rub salt in the wounds of Rolando Romero shortly after the super lightweight titlist surrendered his crown to Isaac Cruz over the weekend on PBC’s inaugural Amazon Prime show.

In the immediate aftermath of the eighth round TKO, Oscar De La Hoya posted a video to social media taunting Romero while sitting ringside at an event under his own promotional banner.

Captioned with “Chihuahua beat you,” a reference to Romero’s pre-fight trash talk towards “Pitbull” Cruz, the video features Oscar De La Hoya hysterically laughing. Former opponent and Golden Boy partner Bernard Hopkins makes a brief cameo to laugh as well.

However, Oscar De La Hoya continued to twist the knife the next day with another video. The 1995 Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year directly addressed Romero with no room for interpretation.

“Rollies, you dumb a--, getting knocked out. Focus on your opponents instead of focusing on me, godda--it. Other fighters learn from Rollies. Don’t talk s--- about promoters. There’s only three of us in the world,” De La Hoya said

The bad blood between De La Hoya and Romero stems from the failed negotiations between the two parties for a proposed matchup with Golden Boy fighter “King” Ryan Garcia. After plans were scrapped, Romero went on social media to unleash profanity-laden venom towards Garcia, the promotional company, it’s founder, and broadcast partner DAZN.

Days later, De La Hoya countered Romero’s claims by pointing towards PBC head Al Haymon for the fight not materializing. “Rolly, he’s a character. He’s funny…You’re not not fighting me. I mean, if I would’ve fought you would’ve knocked your a-- out easy,” he added.
