PLAYERS: Manny Pacquiao

An interview by a National Conservative Examiner writer regarding boxer Manny Pacquiao citing a Biblical passage has been erroneous.  This interview created a lot of news on the airwaves and even caused public disgust.  Several groups were pushing Nike to drop their endorsement deal for Manny Pacquiao.  A popular Los Angeles mall even went to the extent of banning the popular boxer from their property.

According to GMA News from the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao’s spokeswoman Rose Tamayo has released a statement that said the boxer was highly misquoted and had a “huge effect”.  Tamayo was referring to all the companies that endorse Pacquiao.

The writer of the original report that was widely circulated would later confirm that the boxer never quoted the Biblical passage (Leviticus 20:13).  The writer, Granville Ampong, also says that the media took his words and twisted it.  Even the popular mall in Los Angeles, The Grove, took belief in those exaggerations and banned Pacquiao.  The mall has then lifted the ban from the Filipino boxer.

The boxer himself, Manny Pacquiao, stated:

I didn’t say that, that’s a lie.  I didn’t know that quote from Leviticus because I haven’t read the Book of Leviticus yet.  I am not against gay people.  I have a relative who is also gay.

Sometimes words get twisted and the media takes that information for what it is worth.  Along the way, extra information is randomly added that can change the extent of the original conversation.
