Sergey Lipinets wins in decision over Robbie Davies Jr. in entertaining scrap

Sergey Lipinets (18-3-1, 13 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Robbie Davies Jr. (23-5, 15 KOs) in an entertaining bout on Wednesday.

Scores for the 10-rounder were 98-89, 96-91 and 95-92. The two men fought at a 142-lb catchweight in the main event of a ProBox Promotions card at the ProBox (also known as WhiteSands) Event Center in Plant City, FL. Fight fans could catch the action live on the ProBox TV YouTube page, in addition to their website. Both fighters were coming off of losses and were looking for a win in order to get their respective careers back on track. With a fight like this, they certainly delivered.

The clash began with Lipinets coming forward and Davies fighting off the back foot. Both men utilised the jab in an attempt to assert their style in the opening round. Davies’ nose was bloodied in the second as the two fighters started to open up. Towards the end of the third, Lipinets was stunned by a left hook. Despite Davies unloading, the Kazakh was able to stay on his feet until the end of the round.

Lipinets was stunned yet again by a left hook in the fourth, allowing Davies to land almost at will. In round five, the Englishman was stunned by a right hook, sending him on the retreat. Two overhand rights allowed Lipinets to send his opponent to the canvas. A lot of blood was pouring from the mouth and nose of Davies by this point.

In a wild round eight, Davies went down from a left hook to the body with over two minutes to go. Lipinets scored another knock down not long after with an overhand right. With less than 40 seconds left in the round, Davies wobbled his opponent with a left hook, but Lipinets was able to stay standing.

The last two rounds saw the Kazakh mostly outboxing Davies. Though Lipinets was visibly stunned in three different rounds, the knockdowns and his overall boxing ability helped him get the decision. He returns to the win column with the victory and will likely get a good opportunity in his next fight.

Undercard results

In an eight-round heavyweight bout, Fernely Feliz Jr. (8-0, 6 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Cesar Navarro (11-2, 9 KOs). Scores were 79-73 (x2) and 78-74. Feliz is the older brother of prospect Ali Feliz.

Tsendbaatar Erdenebat (10-0, 5 KOs) got the stoppage win against Alberto Mercado (17-7-1, 4 KOs) in an eight-round super lightweight fight. The time of stoppage was 2:39 of round three. Dr. Denise Griffin stopped the bout after deeming Mercado to be in no position to continue. Mercado was hit by clean punch that caused a cut on his left eye, resulting in the fight being stopped.

Robert Meriwether III (6-0, 2 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Victor Gala in a six-round lightweight contest. Scores for the bout were 60-54 across the board.

In the first fight of the card, Terrence Williams (6-0, 5 KOs) won via first round stoppage against Jonathan Sosa (7-17-2, 4 KOs). The time of stoppage for this six-round welterweight bout was 1:10. Williams sent his opponent to the canvas with a left hook and referee Michael DeJesus immediately waved off the fight. Sosa did not get up immediately and required support in exiting the ring.
