The boxing match over the weekend was fixed. It’s rather clear. Timothy Bradley “won” a split decision victory over Manny Pacquiao Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

I’ll touch on stats for only a moment. According to the HBO broadcast, Pacquiao landed 190 of 493 power punches to Bradley’s 108 of 390. In terms of overall punches, Pacquiao also outlanded Bradley: 253 of 751 for Pacquiao, 159 of 839 for Bradley.

The sooner we digest the idea that this was a fix, the sooner we can move on.

How is this a good thing? This could lead us closer to a Mayweather – Pacquialo bout. Here’s how.

This assumes Pacquiao was not in on the fix. I believe this is very evident as Pac-man didn’t exactly mail it in on Saturday night. He beat Bradley handily. If that was Manny throwing a fight, he isn’t very good at it.

Maybe Pac-man wasn’t in on it, but some people knew. Pregame.com says that some Vegas sportsbooks saw an influx of money on Bradley the day of the fight. In fact, so much money was put on Bradley at the eleventh hour that the line moved from +425 to +300. That’s a dramatic shift on the day of the bout.

It’s simple, really. This is all about money. Shocking, I know. With this loss, Manny has less leverage in negotiating with Mayweather. The last sticking point was the 50:50 split of the purse that Pacquiao wanted. Mayweather wasn’t going for it. Now that Pacquiao has this recent loss, Mayweather should be able to grab more of the purse.

Say this is true; Who’s behind this? Bob Arum.

Arum is the founder of Top Rank, a Nevada based fight promotion company. Both Pacquiao and Bradley are Top Rank fighters. Manny’s Top Rank contract was about to end. This “loss” by Pacquiao provides the stage for a rematch. This creates an additional revenue generating opportunity.

Arum must be confident, if he did have a part in fixing this fight. He is spearheading the investigation into the controversial decision.

This should be the final straw. Pac-man should be gone from Top Rank unless he was in on this, which seems unlikely. Now, if Pacquiao kicks Top Rank to the curb, we might just have another shot at seeing the only boxing match anyone has wanted to see for more than 3 years.
