Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk: Unveiling the Last Three Fights of ‘The Gypsy King’

Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) and Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) will collide on Saturday, May 18, in the much-anticipated clash for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Several platforms will stream the card on PPV, including DAZN, Sky Sports, TNT Sports and PPV.com. The Last Three Opponents of Tyson Fury

Francis Ngannou

On October 28, 2023, “The Gypsy King” went up against ex-UFC star Ngannou. The fight began with Fury throwing a right hand – with both using the opening round to figure each other out. The pawing continued into the second round before the fight sprang into life towards the end of round three, when the Cameroonian fighter stunned the boxing world, dropping Fury with an overhand left. 

The Brit recovered and saw out the round, having his moments in the rest of the fight, but could not overcome the sheer physicality of Ngannou and impose himself. Fury had the higher output during the fight, but the more eye-catching work came from Ngannou. The judges scorecards read 95-94 for the debutant, with the other cards reading 96-93 and 95-94 for “The Gypsy King.”

Derek Chisora

On December 3, 2022, Tyson Fury returned from a short-lived retirement to take on Derek Chisora in their trilogy fight for Fury‘s WBC title. The fight took place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. It was a dominant performance from Fury as he bossed the distance and tempo of the fight, systematically beating up Chisora before the contest ended in round 10, awarding Fury the TKO win.

While in the ring, “The Gypsy King” called out Usyk for an undisputed clash and got us dreaming of seeing the undisputed heavyweight championship on the line again. It wasn’t the next fight but were now on the verge of seeing Usyk-Fury.

Dillian Whyte

On April 23, 2022, “The Gypsy King” fought Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium in front of 94,000 fans. The build-up was controversial as Whyte refused to participate in any event promoting the fight. Whyte struggled from the beginning to get a foothold in the fight, with Fury working well behind his jab. “The Gypsy King” threw some beautifully timed hooks, backing his opponent up.

A clash of heads in the fourth round left Whyte with a cut over his right eye. The Manchester-born fighter landed a heavy straight right, which stunned the Brixton fighter in round five. With just seconds left in round six, Fury hit Whyte with a well-timed left jab before following up with a spiteful right uppercut, which sent Whyte crashing to the canvas.

Despite Whyte beating the count, the referee waved off the fight, declaring Fury the winner by sixth-round TKO. Fury announced his retirement after the win. But as we know, that was far from the end for “The Gypsy King.”
