Why The Floyd Mayweather Jr. & Gervonta Davis Feud Is Fun
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0) and Gervonta Davis (29-0) aren’t big fans of one another. The two fighters are trading barbs towards one another, with the rivalry getting uglier by the day. Now Mayweather Jr. is mocking Davis and his… dance moves.

It’s like having that one pencilneck neighbor above you who doesn’t stop stomping around. They either have hiking boots on and they love to parade around or they’re bowling. You want to tell them off and tell them to soften their feet, but they won’t listen. That’s what “Tank” is experiencing with Mayweather Jr.

He’s that annoying neighbor who was respected before he saw who he was. Now, the rivalry has escalated into wild accusations, ranging from being “held hostage by the Saudis” to sharing bizarre videos. Here’s why this feud is weird… and enjoyable at the same time.

About Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0) has made a career of being one of the most technical and defensive boxers on the planet. He’s taken down fighters such as Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez, making him one of the best modern fighters in the world.

However, not everyone is a big fan of Mayweather Jr. For one, the undefeated boxer has a history of allegedly ducking fighters, including Ricky Hatton, Joel Casamayor, and Acelino Fritas. It’s unknown whether it’s to protect his record, legacy, or other reasons. But it’s rubbed some people the wrong way.

The feud has gotten everyone involved, including Shakur Stevenson, who’s imploring Davis to fight him. For boxing fans, it’s an opportunity to see if “Tank” can put his money where his mouth is. He did it against Ryan Garcia and he can also do it against Stevenson.

Why This Feud, Though?

This feud is fun for many reasons. One, it might prompt Mayweather Jr. to come out of retirement and fight Davis. Both are undefeated boxers who would like to shut each other up. But there are also incredible storylines that come with this feud.

For Mayweather Jr., he’s trying to prove that he’s more than a rich jerk who’s being “held hostage by the Saudis”. As for the Baltimore native, he’d be the scrappy underappreciated boxer in the fight. It would be a great chance for both to make a statement.

Will this fight ever materialize? Probably not. However, it’s fun to think what could happen if it ever did. Boxing fans would want to see the old guard take on newer fighters. After all, that’s what’s drawing attention to Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson.
