It’s the beginning of November, which can only mean one thing: time for some college hoops.
With the NBA still in a lockout for the foreseeable future, hopefully people will be looking to the NCAA to get their basketball fix for the time being.
Good thing we have a great team to get behind here in Austin with such great history, prestige, and not to mention the cheerleaders.
The University of Texas basketball team looks to get off to a good start this season starting Sunday, November 13th against the Boston University Terriers.
It is a part of the TicketCity Legends Classic Regional and will be held at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. This game should prove to be a tough task for the Longhorns.
It will also be a great gauge of what to expect this upcoming season, and give Rick Barnes a chance to figure out a solid starting line-up after losing 3 great players (Jordan Hamilton, Tristan Thompson, and Corey Joseph) to the NBA draft.
The Longhorns have a small, young team this year, and will have their hands full with the Terriers.
Boston University had an overall record last year of 21-14 in 2010, winning the American East conference and making it to the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament before losing to Kansas.
Head coach Joe Jones, who is starting his first year with Boston University, leads the Terriers and hopes to get them off to quick start. BU returns seniors this year and looks to continue where they left off last year and spoil the Longhorns first home game of the year.
The Longhorns only have four players over 6’5” while the Terriers only have two players under 6’5”. Size will definitely play a role in Sunday’s game, one way or the other.
The Longhorns will need to use their speed, and hope highly touted freshman Myck Kabongo can start his Longhorn career on a high note.
They’ll also be looking to returning junior guard J’Covan Brown to step up and help out in the backcourt with Kabongo. While not getting much play time last year, the Longhorns only 2 returning frontcourt upperclassmen, Alexis Wangmene and Clint Chapman, will have to step up in the post position in a big way.
The Longhorns also have 5 incoming freshman other than Kabongo hoping to make a contribution this season.
This game should be a great one, even if it is an exhibition tournament to get the players ready for the season.
It’ll be exciting to see all the new talent coming in this year, and how the Longhorns can handle a much bigger Boston University team.
