Found November 13, 2013 on SCACC Hoops:
We're just a few days into the college basketball season, but make no mistake, Tuesday felt like March.  Whether it was watching the talented youngsters in Duke/Kansas, Kentucky trying to battle back after digging an early hole against Michigan State, or watch VCU hit a 24 footer to take our Virginia at home.  Thankfully it wasn't March, as three out of the seven ACC teams that played on Tuesday would be headed home. Duke lost to Kansas 94-83, but the final score doesn't tell you much.  The Blue Devils played well for the first 35 minutes of the game, but foul trouble and an inability to guard Kansas without fouling were too much late.  Jabari Parker was as good as you could ask for, considering it was his second game, in his hometown, and against Andrew Wiggins.  Parker finished with 27 points in the loss.  I raised concerns about Duke's defense after the Davidson win, and they certain proved true against Kansas. The only other game I was able to watch last night was Virginia/VCU.  The Cavaliers seemed to have control of the game late, but VCU managed to steal it way when Treveon Graham hit a contested long three point shot to bury the Cavaliers.  Virginia's problem was that they didn't execute late, a surprise considering the Cavalier experience. NC State led Cincinnati at half, but fell apart in the second half.  Syracuse and Pitt won easily, while Virginia Tech picked up a nice win over West Virginia.  Wake Forest also won and was led by Devin Thomas who finished with 20 points and 17 rebounds in just 25 minutes on the floor. Check out the game previews below for the three ACC teams in action tonight.  Highlights  Team Conf Pct Overall Pct  Georgia Tech  0-0  1.000  2-0  1.000  Notre Dame  0-0  1.000  2-0  1.000  Pittsburgh  0-0  1.000  2-0  1.000  Syracuse  0-0  1.000  2-0  1.000  Wake Forest  0-0  1.000  2-0  1.000  UNC  0-0  1.000  1-0  1.000  Clemson  0-0  1.000  1-0  1.000  FSU  0-0  1.000  1-0  1.000  Duke  0-0  1.000  1-1  0.500  Miami  0-0  1.000  1-1  0.500  Virginia  0-0  1.000  1-1  0.500  Virginia Tech  0-0  1.000  1-1  0.500  NC State  0-0  1.000  1-1  0.500  Maryland  0-0  1.000  0-1  0.000  Boston College  0-0  1.000  0-2  0.000  Injury Report  Patrick Rooks (CL) injured hip, out for season Chris Bolden (GT) suspended first 3 games for summer DUI Jason Morris (GT) stress fracture in foot, back in late Nov Seth Allen (MD) 10/30 - broken foot, out 8-10 weeks Deandre Burnett (MI) injured wrist, out for season Jordan Vandenberg (ST) 11/2 - injured ankle, out 4-6 weeks CJ Barksdale (VT) suspended 3 games for violation of team rules Links ACC Basketball Will Have To Adjust To Presence of Syracuse Orange McFarling: Rigors of Jim Weaver's job got in the way of doing it | roanoke.com Syracuse Orange: C.J. Freshmen Jabari Parker Stars, but Duke Falls

Jabari Parker scored 27 points with 19 coming in the first half alone, however, it wasn’t enough to avoid early season loss to the 5th ranked Kansas Jayhawks 94-83 . The matchup of top-rated freshmen in Duke’s Parker and Kansas Andrew Wiggins was a battle though not necessarily between the two as they more often than not weren’t even guarding one another until late. Both...

Can BYU Basketball be Elite Without Elite Recruits?

Last week, the Cougar basketball program lost another LDS recruit to a big-name program. 6′ 9″ forward from Arizona, Payton Daystrup, said that the Ohio State University “just clicked” with him and chose the Buckeyes over his other finalists, Virginia, Florida, and BYU. For Cougar fans, the announcement was another punch in the gut that reminded them of LDS standout from...

Jabari Parker puts on show in hometown in Duke loss

From the stands: Duke v. Kansas

Coach K Calls NBA Teams Tanking Un-American

After only two weeks into the NBA season there has been talk about teams possibly tanking in order to reload with the talented 2014 draft class. One anonymous GM even admitted to talking with ownership about the benefits tanking could have for the team. After seeing Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins, and Julius Randle perform on the big stage last night, it makes sense why some teams...
