As you could expect, there were multiple NBA scouts in attendance on Saturday at the KFC Yum Center for the Louisville – Syracuse match-up. One of the veteran NBA scouts spoke with Adam Zagoria of SNY.TV following the game. Here is his evaluation of Russ Smith’s performance.
**Russ Smith, Louisville (25 points, 4 steals)
Scout’s take: ”Russ Smith is shooting up the charts. He’s a tough, quick, little guy who shoots it straight. He brings great ball pressure. He’s Brooklyn-tough, cat-quick. He gets wherever he wants on the floor. He can push the ball. I think he’s intelligent enough when he gets to the NBA, he knows he’s gotta give the ball up.”
Two years ago I didn’t think there was a chance in hell that Russ Smith would be an NBA prospect, but at this point it’s hard to argue that he’s not the best pro prospect for Louisville. Russ does things that you simply can’t teach. I doubt he’ll receive a high enough draft evaluation to leave after his junior season, but consider this
BEST OF MAXIM
Russ Smith seemed upbeat following Louisville’s 70-68 loss to Syracuse. Russ was very complementary of Syracuse and says the team has already moved on and is looking to the next game.
Louisville lost its second straight tough game in a row on Tuesday night, this time at the hands of Villanova. Over the weekend, the Cardinals lost a tough home game to No. 6-ranked Syracuse. However, the Wildcats are a team they should have beaten. Had they been more successful from the charity stripe, Rick Pitino’s team may have come away with a win. Louisville hit only 12...
Deadspin.com is the website that broke the entire Manti Te’o fake girlfriend hoax last week, which has become the biggest story of 2013. One of DeadSpin’s most recent articles on the Te’o situation looked back at all of the Tweets from the fake Lennay Kekua Twitter account. It turns out the fake account had contacted Peyton Siva following Louisville’s second round win
I didn’t expect Louisville to run the table in Big East play this season, but I certainly didn’t expect to see them play like they did tonight. It’s still January and the Cards have only three losses on the season, but what we saw tonight is slightly concerning. A week ago I was asking if this team had any real weaknesses. That question was answered tonight. Mental toughness...

Just 24-hours after making an official visit to Louisville, 3-star defensive lineman Derrick Calloway has de-committed from the Cardinal program and is now a part of South Florida’s recruiting class. Calloway had given Louisville a verbal commitment in December and left this weekend saying he was solid with that commitment, despite taking a visit to South Florida last weekend and...
After a 70-68 loss to Syracuse on Saturday, University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino met with the media on Monday to talk about the Cardinals’ game on Tuesday at Villanova. Pitino had plenty to say about the Wildcats, the loss to the Orangemen and his team’s progress. Cardinal Authority was there.
Charlie Strong has the long-term commitment he wanted from Louisville.
The Cardinals coach and the university agreed on an eight-year contract extension Wednesday that will pay Strong an annual base salary of $3.7 million, plus incentives worth at least $583,333 for reaching the BCS Championship Game.
Strong's third season with Louisville ended with a 33-23 upset of Florida...
During an interview with ESPN blogger Andrea Adelson last week, University of Louisville offensive coordinator Shawn Watson mentioned the possibility of Zeke Pike playing tight end during the upcoming season. News to most of us.
Pike, along with B. J. Dubose, Charles Gaines and Kamal Hogan, were suspended for disciplinary reasons shortly after the Cincinnati game...
Chucky Williams, a 3-star athlete from Champagnat Catholic in Miami, FL., has flipped his commitment from Ole Miss to Louisville. Williams was one of the many recruits who took an official visit to Louisville over the weekend.
Williams had given Ole Miss a verbal commitment in July, but apparently his visit over the weekend made quite an impression. He was also being heavily pursued...
Louisville head coach Charlie Strong and UofL have finally agreed upon, and approved, a new eight year deal worth a reported $3.7 million per year. According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, Strong is now the seventh highest paid coach in college football. Not bad for a guy who couldn’t get a head coaching job for nearly thirty years. Charlie Strong’s having a heck of a couple weeks.
