Jahenns Manigat scored a season-best 16 points and hit a layup with 11 seconds to go that gave top-seeded Creighton just enough to beat Wichita State 68-65 for its second straight Missouri Valley Conference tournament title. Reserve Ethan Wragge hit five 3-pointers for 15 points to help the Bluejays overcome an off day from star Doug McDermott, who missed six of his first seven shots Sunday and was held to 14 points - 10 below his average. McDermott was still honored as the tournament MVP. He had scored 41 points eight days earlier in Creighton's regular-season title clinching victory over the Shockers. Malcolm Armstead scored a season-high 28 points with nine rebounds for second-seeded Wichita State (26-8), which shot just 34 percent and has dropped three of five. Cleanthony Early, who averages 14 points off the bench, was held to two points.

Jays' Wragge proves team is more than solo act

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The left wrist was pale, swollen and puffy, although "puffy" might be selling it a bit short. It looked like somebody had tried to jam one of those little chocolate doughnuts down Ethan Wragge's forearm. "I couldn't move it six inches (Saturday)," Wragge, Creighton's 6-foot-7 sixth man and 3-point specialist, explained after helping...

Jays fans wonder if this is last Arch Madness

ST. LOUIS, Mo. Like a lot of Creighton fans, Jack Horgan has been wandering the streets of St. Louis these past few days in a New York State Of Mind. "The Missouri Valley is awesome," Horgan said, taking slow sips from a beer bottle as his Bluejays put the finishing touches on Drake in the quarterfinals of the 2013 MVC tournament. "No bad things to say." Sip...

MVC fan hits half-court shot -- but misses 50K

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Believe it or not, the biggest shot of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship Sunday didn't come from the hands of Jahenns Manigat or Doug McDermott. That honor belonged to Alex Permann. Permann, 24, a South Dakota native and a student at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, drained a half-court shot as part of a pregame promotion, sending...

Wichita State edged by Creighton in MVC tourney

There was no second-guessing for Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall about his team's failed bid to force overtime. He was proud of the way the Shockers made a game of it. Jahenns Manigat scored a season-best 16 points and hit a layup with 11.5 seconds to go that gave top-seeded Creighton just enough to repeat as Missouri Valley Conference tournament champion with a 68-65 win...
