Last year, Marcus Paige became one of the few freshmen to immediately start under Roy Williams, and his youth immediately showed. Paige averaged 8 points and 4 assists per game while only shooting 35% from the field last year. One of Paige’s most glaring weaknesses this past season was his wiry physical frame. UNC fans will be excited to know that Paige has spent all summer packing on the pounds.   As a high school prospect Paige was listed at 135 pounds. By the end of his first year the guard had bumped his weight up to a respectable 157. This summer Paige, as well as other UNC players has been on strict weight training and eating regiments under the supervision of strength and conditioning coach Jonas Sahratian.   Paige’s training is already paying dividends and he touched on the effects of his training in a Go Heels TV interview last week, “I feel a lot stronger. We do a lot of Olympic lifts with explosion stuff. So I feel more explosive, I feel stronger, I can fight and use the arm bar more effectively.  A lot of that stuff translates to the court pretty well.”   The weight room isn’t the only place that Paige has spent his time this summer either. UNC’s Marcus Paige   Last week it was reported that Paige has been getting one-on-one sessions with former UNC great Kendall Marshall, he also has reached out to former UNC point guards Raymond Felton and Ty Lawson. It’s clear that Paige is dedicated to his craft, and we can definitely expect to see an improved Paige this upcoming season.   It’s exciting to hear that Paige feels that he has gotten more explosive as well. From the Go Heels TV interview Paige’s maturity and growth in confidence were obvious. That added confidence will serve him well in what many expect to be a bounce back year for UNC hoops.
