WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (AP) -- California senior Jorge Gutierrez has pulled off an impressive Pac-12 double: He was named conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year on Monday, as chosen by the league's coaches. Gutierrez, with his remarkable journey of leaving Chihuahua, Mexico, as a teen to play basketball in Denver, averages 12.9 points and 5.3 rebounds. Washington guard Tony Wroten earned Freshman of the Year honors, Washington State junior forward Brock Motum was named Most Improved Player of the Year and Washington's Lorenzo Romar is Coach of the Year. Arizona placed two players on the all-conference first team: Senior guard Kyle Fogg and junior forward Solomon Hill. Also on the 10-player team were California sophomore guard Allen Crabbe, Oregon State junior guard Jared Cunningham, Oregon senior guard Devoe Joseph, Washington State's Motum, Washington's Wroten and sophomore guard Terrence Ross and Colorado sophomore forward Andre Roberson. Cal's Allen Crabbe joined Gutierrez, Motum and Wroten on the Pac-12 first team, along with Oregon State's Jared Cunningham, Arizona's Kyle Fogg and Solomon Hill, Oregon's Devoe Joseph, Andre Roberson of conference newcomer Colorado and Terrence Ross of Washington. Fogg is Arizona's leading scorer (13.5 points per game) and has made a team-high 64 3-point shots, while Hill is averaging 12.4 points and a team-leading 7.8 rebounds. Fogg, Cunningham and Roberson all joined Gutierrez on the all-defensive team, along with Washington center Aziz NDiaye. Romar guided Washington to its second Pac-12 title under his watch and the first since 2009, with a 14-4 league mark and 21-9 overall record. It was his third Coach of the Year honor, with his first coming in 2005 and the second in 2009. The all-freshman team includes Wroten, Arizona guard Nick Johnson, California forward David Kravish, Stanford guard Chasson Randle and Colorado guard Spencer Dinwiddie.
