Iowa at Virginia Tech Date 11/27/2012 7:15:00 PMLive StatsCheck At Gametime.TV ESPNU Team Stats Embed This Chart On Your WebsitePence's Quick Thoughts Virginia Tech hosts Iowa in the ACC/B1G challenge tonight.  Iowa's strength has been getting to the  FT line (16th in FTA/FGA) this season where they shoot a modest 71% from the line.  Of course that's about all the good I can say about the Iowa offense, as they are a poor shooting team and turn the ball over too much.  They're 11th best in eFG% allowed, partially because they have blocked shots on 16% of their defensive possessions this year which is 16th in the nation.   Iowa's only top-100 opponent resulted in their only loss of the season, by 12 points to Wichita State. The Hokies this season have focused on taking care of the ball and hitting the defensive glass.  They've been very efficiency scoring the basketball but are untested since they haven't played an a top-200 opponent yet. If Virginia Tech fans show up and homecourt can be an advantage to the Hokies, they can win a close one. ******* The bad news is VT is just 2-5 all time in the ACC/Big(12)Ten Challenge.  The good news is both wins came against iowa.  The Hokies will look for the hat trick Tuesday night in the Cassell. Tech has gotten off to a great start at 5-0, but they really haven’t been tested.  That changes over the next two weeks as VT plays iowa and oklahoma state at home, then at wvu.  This will show us whether we really are solid, or if we’ve just been feasting on weaker competition and still can’t win a big out of conference game.  Having Tuesday at home will surely help. Both teams have similar tempo-free numbers.  They average approximately 105.5 points per 100 possessions, a very good average, and hold opponents to less than a point per possession (iowa is 50th best in the nation in this stat). More from TechHoops.com Our five game set of glorified pre-season scrimmages is officially over and coach J.J. and Virginia Tech are still officially undefeated. Some would say officially untested. And yes, Frank did beat J.J. to 6 wins. Caveat being –it only took Frank 12 games to get there! And coach J’s has his sixth game yet to play. Either way, we are about 33% of the way to any potential post-season basketball tournament bid based upon our 3o game regular season 2012-2013 schedule.
