UCLA freshman sensation Shabazz Muhammad has played his final game at Pauley Pavilion. Well, at least according to Bruins Coach Ben Howland. The 6-foot-6 Muhammad is part of a blue-chip freshman class, which includes 6-9 guard Kyle Anderson, on a UCLA team that struggled early in the season but is in the thick of the Pac-12 Conference title race. But the explosive swingman appears headed to the NBA next season, if you listen to Howland. "That was his last game in Pauley," Howland said after a hard-fought 74-69 victory over No. 11-ranked Arizona. "There's no doubt about it. I know that. He knows that. We all know that. So we want this season to go on as long as possible." Muhammad led the Bruins with 18 points, hitting a three-pointer to open the game while scoring their last four points to help seal the win. But he wasn't giving any indications that this will be his only season at UCLA. "Everyone has me leaving," Muhammad said after the game. "There's a lot to weigh and I have a lot of eligibility left. We're only losing Larry Drew. We could be really good next year." Howland seems to already know the score, though. "I'm a realist guy," Howland said. "I knew going into this, this deal was a one-year deal. He's a lottery pick. It's the absolutely right thing to do." Anderson, like Muhammad, didn't want to talk about leaving UCLA after the game. "I'm not really thinking about that," said Anderson, who finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists. "I'm too caught up in this season." - Dan Loumena

Shabazz Muhammad One and Done According to UCLA Head Coach Ben Howland

Ben Howland, the UCLA head basketball coach, gave reporters some information that they knew, but were not expecting to be confirmed until after the NCAA tournament. Following the team's 74-69 win over No. 11 Arizona he told the world that his star player was going pro. When asked about his coach's comments Shabazz laughed them off and said eh was glad to be at UCLA...

Howland suggests change for one-and-done

UCLA Coach Ben Howland, resigned to freshman Shabazz Muhammad leaving for the NBA after this, his first season of college basketball, would like to see a change in how the NBA handles drafting players. "I would prefer the kids could go right after high school, but once they are in college, they have to stay three years, or two," Howland said. The chance of that change...

Ben Howland: Shabazz Muhammad is leaving UCLA for NBA

Ben Howland confirmed Saturday what everyone already knew: freshman Shabazz Muhammad is leaving UCLA after the season and heading to the NBA Draft. The Bruins beat Arizona 74-69 Saturday in their final home game of the season. It was Senior Night at Pauley Pavilion, and though Larry Drew II was the only player honored, Muhammad may as well have been, too. “I knew going into this...

UCLA’s Shabazz Muhammad And Ben Howland Played ‘Beer’ Pong Last Night

Dailybruin.com UCLA hosts No. 11 Arizona tonight at Pauley Pavilion. As the big, swinging ESPN game of the night, the contest got the full GameDay treatment this afternoon with Jay Bilas, Rece Davis, Digger Phelps and Jalen Rose holding court. Last night, after UCLA finished practice in Pauley Pavilion, Bruin players and coaches treated the fans camping outside of the on-campus arena...

The most followed college basketball players on Twitter

In September I wrote about the 16 most followed basketball players on Twitter. I decided to revisit that list and see who had been gaining followers. The leader in September was Shabazz Muhammad, with 84,135 followers. No one else even had 60,000. But Shabazz only gained a little over 3,000 followers during the season, despite using Twitter regularly. Nerlens Noel, who had been...

UCLA freshmen: Who's staying, who's going?

Jordan Adams put a stop to any possible rumors that could spill about his UCLA future. The Bruins freshman says he'll be back for his sophomore season. He couldn't say the same for his teammates, Kyle Anderson and Shabazz Muhammad. UCLA head coach Ben Howland apologized on Monday for being "too honest" in announcing Muhammad had played his final game at Pauley...

UCLA 74, No. 11 Arizona 69

Shabazz Muhammad grabbed a defensive rebound, got fouled and made both free throws with 9 seconds remaining, helping UCLA hang on for a 74-69 victory over No. 11 Arizona on Saturday night that moved the Bruins into a first-place tie with idle Oregon in the Pac-12. The star freshman finished with 18 points as UCLA fans chanted ''One more year'' in reference to Muhammad...

Ben Howland Played Beer Pong With Students Last Night

We’ve watched enough UCLA basketball games over the years to assume head coach Ben Howland walks around with a permanent scowl on his face. Apparently, we were wrong, as photos from last night outside Pauley Pavilion suggest. Students were camped out in anticipation of a visit from College GameDay (and a showdown with the 11th-ranked Arizona Wildcats), so the head coach showed...

Video: UCLA’s Norman Powell Posterizes Arizona

UCLA got a big win over No. 11 Arizona last night behind the efforts of Shabazz Muhammad and Kyle Anderson. But it was a reserve guard named Norman Powell who may have had the game-defining moment. Powell’s dunk was his only bucket of the game – I’d say he made the most of his contributions.
