Could Illini power forward Tyler Griffey be the new Mark Titus? You know Titus, the former walk-on for the Ohio State Buckeyes who blogged about his basketball-related experiences at his site ‘Club Trillion’.

Learn more about him here Today, Titus writes for ESPN’s new site, Grantland.com

Unlike Titus, Griffey is a starter, and key contributor for his team. And he has different career goals. But they do share Big Ten Blogsmanship.

“It’s kind of taken a side step to a couple of side projects I’ve been working on, but with the Twitter ban looming I’ll need somewhere to outlet my thoughts,” Griffey responded when I asked him about his blog at media day.

He wasn’t at liberty to discuss his side projects at the time. Here’s how Griffey describes himself/his blog Chew Softly

I tell stories, collaborations of thoughts really, that explain to you who I am and what I’m all about. My unique way of viewing life, can be discovered right here, at Chew Softly

I’m nobody. Nobody is perfect, therefore I am perfect.

I then asked about the Titus comparisons.

“I certainly respect what he does, him and Bill Simmons with this Grantland blog that he’s got going. I go on there every day and read all the articles and stuff. I certainly like it, I don’t know if I could see myself going into it that much, I’m a Kines major, fitness, nutrition, I like that stuff and one of the blogs I like is called The Nate Green Experience, and there’s daily blogs about nutrition and fitness. And he participated at the NFL ocmbnie or Nike workouts or something during the lockout and kind of wrote about his experience, so I could see myself doing something like that,” he said.

Thus far, Griffey averages 7.6 PPG and 5.3 RPG on the season. The 6-8, 230 pound junior from the St. Louis area knows that it’s basketball over blogging.

“The blog comes last, it’s definitely a hobby, but we’ve got some road trips where I could squeeze some (blog posts) in,” he said.

Griffey also currently reads Deadspin and the book “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell.
