Illinois Fighting Illini used a big first half run to propel them to a 57-49
win over Colorado in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Brandon Paul did
what he does best. The senior guard led all scorers with 17 points.
The first half run came at the 12-minute mark with the Illini (23-12, 8-10 Big Ten) trailing 15-13. Paul knocked
down a three-pointer to start the run. Illinois went on a 24-to-6 run to end
the first half. Tracy Abrams hit a three to end the half and the
Illini led 37-21.
the second half, Illinois started the half without a field goal for 11 minutes
and the Buffalos (21-12, 10-8 Pac-12) retook
the lead. Abrams ended the scoring drought with a lay-up and cut the lead to
44-41. After that Abrams lay-up, Illinois closed out the game on a 16-to-5 run
that saw Colorado go scoreless for nearly eight minutes.
