NEW ORLEANS - MARCH 20: Coach John Calipari of the Kentucky Wildcats talks to his team during the second round of the 2010 NCAA men's basketball tournament at the New Orleans Arena on March 20, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Dave Martin/Getty Images)
Kentucky head coach John Calipari has seriously revved up the recruiting in the past few weeks. After suffering an abysmal season in 2013, the Wildcats are really looking to bounce back and compete for the national championship this upcoming season. The full beliefs of the Big Blue Nation is riding on their incoming recruiting class. The fans believe it’s time for No. 9 and John Calipari doesn’t want those expectations to simmer after this year. College basketball recruiting seems to get a little more insane every season. Just when you are receiving the latest batch of freshmen, you are already concerned about the high profile recruits making their decisions in the next draft class. As of last Friday, Kentucky has now offered seven prospects in the 2015 class. The latest offer was rewarded to Ivan Rabb, a power forward from Oakland, CA. Rabb stands at 6-foot-10 and weighs just shy of 200 pounds. In the ridiculously early recruiting rankings, Rabb is rated as the best power forward in the 2015 class, and second best player overall. He is a long and athletic prospect with his strengths including blocking shot and getting up and down the court. Here is a quote from an interview with CBS‘ Jeff Borzello about what Rabb wants to see in a school: “Academics have to be good because not everybody is going to go to the NBA. I want to make sure I get a good degree, in business most likely,” said Rabb. “Basketball-wise, I just want to have a school that can run and gun but also has a potent half-court offense that can score most of the time down the floor.” The University of Kentucky’s business program is ranked in the Top-100 schools in the country. Add that with John Calipari’s dribble drive motion offense, this can be a match made in heaven. The Wildcats have some serious competition for Rabb’s services, including west-coast powerhouse Arizona. Other serious competition includes Kansas and North Carolina. Rabb formerly played on the same AAU team as 2014 Kentucky target Stanley Johnson and former UK player Kyle Wiltjer.
