Russ Smith’s heavy hearted 28 points became the highest point total for Louisville in Madison Square Garden in the Big East Tournament.
The win over the Wildcats gives Louisville its eighth straight win and moves into the Big East Tourney Semi-finals for the third consecutive year.
Two of the big problem areas for much of the Cards this season were three point shooting and free throw shooting. Knocking down 10 three pointers for almost 42% and finishing 18-23 for 78% at the free throw line were sure keys to the victory. Keeping those kinds of numbers up this post-season in conjunction with Louisville’s defensive prowess would make for a difficult match-up for anyone.
For the seventh time this season, Russ Smith converted 10 or more free throws finishing 10-11. In those seven outings, Smith is just under 88% efficiency.
