Although Louisville’s offense has drastically improved in the last month and wound up leading the Big East in scoring, it’s the Cards defense that makes them a national title contender. Even if Louisville has a cold shooting night, their ability to consistently get stops on defense will keep them in games against any team in the country. Following Louisville’s win over Cincinnati last week, Rick Pitino says the ability to play both man-to-man and two-three zone has been a game changer this season. Last year Louisville had to disguise their match-up zone to confuse opponents, but this year the Cards have been able to turn defense to offense. Louisville closed out the regular season scoring 22.6 points per game off of turnovers, which is more than any other team in the country.
