Michigan will play Iowa State today at 5:00 pm ET, but it will be without 6′-10″ sophomore center Mitch McGary. When questioned Friday about McGary’s return from a lower back injury, Michigan head coach John Beilein was obviously tired of being asked. He told reporters;
“If he dresses, he’ll play, but we’ll decide if he dresses when he’s ready. So if you ever see him in warmups, he’s going to play.”
There has been no sign of McGary in warm-ups in Ames, so he’s obviously not playing today. McGary averaged 7.5 points and 6.6 rebounds as a freshman.
I would not expect to see McGary play against Long Beach State on Thursday or Coppin State on Friday. McGary made it pretty obvious when he intends to return. Brendan F. Quinn of MLive.com reports he was present when McGary was asked if he might be back in time for the December 3rd game at Duke.
