EAST LANSING — Michigan State freshman guard Gary Harris has been rewarded for his fantastic play this past week by being named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Harris averaged 18.5 points in the Spartans two victories against Kansas and Texas Southern. With three games under his belt, the freshman from Indiana leads the Spartans in scoring with 16.0 ppg. Harris scored 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting against Kansas. His efficiency continued against Texas Southern as he scored 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting. He joins Sam Vincent (1981-82) and Raymar Morgan (2006-07) as the only freshmen in MSU history to score in double figures in their first three games, and his 16.0 ppg scoring average is the best three-game average for any Spartan during the Izzo era. This award has been around for three years, and Harris has become just the second Spartan to capture the honor, first was Branden Dawson.
