We’ve just crossed the halfway point of the ACC basketball season, and we’ve got some mid-season award winners, and on this list that isn’t always a good. Team of the First Half – Miami Hurricanes This one was easy. Miami is playing as well ANYBODY in the country. They are 10-0 in the ACC, and flying up the rankings. They are eyeing a number #1 NCAA seed. What else can you say? Coach of the First Half – Jim Larranaga  Jim Larranaga is orchestrating the Miami surge. He navigated the Canes through games that Durand Scott and Reggie Johnson were unavailable. Player of the First Half – Shane Larkin  Noticing a trend? If Larranaga is orcrestasting the surge, Larkin is the on the floor leader. Larkin is savvy point guard that shoot, guard, and distribute the basketball. Basically it’s exactly what you want out of your starting PG. Most Surprising Team – Miami Hurricanes The Miami Hurricanes award show continues. Most Disappointing Team – North Carolina State Wolfpack This one was tough. I...

Video: Shane Larkin throws alley-oop off backboard in Miami’s rout of North Carolina

Tweet   When it comes to sports most people associate the University of Miami with their football program, rightfully so with all the players they’ve sent to the NFL in recent years. If you haven’t been paying much attention to college basketball this season you may be a bit surprised to find out the Canes [...]

Larkin is making famous father proud

Shane Larkin was still in grade school when the Cincinnati Reds began grooming him for the big leagues. The son of a shortstop, Larkin enjoyed hanging out with the Reds at spring training and receiving tutorials on hitting from such experts as Pete Rose and Tony Perez. Then one year he returned home to Orlando, Fla., and his Little League coach insisted Larkin's swing was all...

The Day in Dunking Courtesy of Miami's Shane Larkin and Kenny Kadji

At first I looked at this clip because it mentioned LeBron James and Dwayn Wade in it. Then I watched the clip. Forget about those guys that play for the Heat; these Hurricanes are something else! It was already established that 'The U' could play. You don't work your way up to No. 8 in the nation without being able to do a few things right. One thing these guys...

Hot shooting carries Miami in rout

Miami hit a school record-tying 15 3-pointers and the eighth-ranked Hurricanes extended their winning streak to 11 games by beating North Carolina 87-61 on Saturday. Sophomore Shane Larkin had 18 points and a career-high nine assists for the ACC leaders, who built margins of 9-0 and 44-27 en route to another rout. They improved to 11-0 at home, where each of the past four wins have...

Larkin throws alley-oop off the backboard

In the Miami Hurricanes rout of North Carolina, Shane Larkin (son of baseball Hall of Famer Barry Larkin) decided to have some fun and throw the ball of the glass to Kenny Kadji for the dunk; naturally this sent the crowd into a frenzy.  LeBron James and Dwyane Wade were sitting courtside and absolutely loved it.  This will be #1 on Sportscenter Saturday night as the Hurricanes...

ACC Power Rankings: Miami stays dominant

Blowouts, buzzer beaters and some excellent individual performances were the storylines of the last week in ACC basketball. Of course, Miamis continued run trumps everything and should at least have the Hurricanes in the top-5 this week. Here are this weeks power rankings: 1. Miami (19-3, 10-0) The Hurricanes should be ranked No. 1 in the nation. Nobody else is playing as well...

Miami 87 UNC 61

I am going to throw something out there that will probably come as a complete shock to people but Miami is really good. They have talent. They have balance. They are one of the best defensive team in the country. Kenny Kadji is a match-up nightmare since he is capable of playing all over the court. Shane Larkin is a very quick and difficult to guard. Miami rebounds the ball well...
