Multiple UCLA Bruins Freshmen Make Prominent Under-The-Radar List
USA TODAY Sports

We got our first glimpse at the vaunted UCLA 7-man freshmen class on Tuesday night.

Well...sorta.

Aday Mara and Berke Buyuktuncel -- the two most highly-touted members of the class -- have not yet been cleared by the NCAA for participation in games. This should be figured out rather soon, and potentially as soon as next week in time for the Bruins' Nov. 6 season opener versus Saint Francis.

However, we did see the likes of Jan Vide, Brandon Williams, Devin Williams, Ilane Fibleuil, and Sebastian Mack take the floor in the 41-point exhibition win over Cal State Dominguez Hills. While the collective play of the quintet was impressive, a few of the first-year players are garnering some hype via one prominent media personality.

Noted college hoops pundit Jon Rothstein came out with his 20 under-the-radar freshmen list for this upcoming season. The list included three UCLA freshmen in the form of Mack, Vide, and Fibleuil.

Rothstein had this to say about Mack:

"The 6-3 Mack has to give UCLA significant offensive mileage this season after the Bruins lost over 80 percent of their scoring from last year’s team that won the Pac-12 regular season title and advanced to the Sweet 16. This is key piece for Mick Cronin. Mack had 23 points in an exhibition game on Tuesday night."

Here's what he penned on Vide:

"A cerebral guard who probes defenses exceptionally well, Vide has an old school game that focuses on poise and precision. An elite scorer in the mid-range area, the 6-6 Vide averaged 17.9 points for Slovenia this summer during the FIBA U19 World Cup in Turkey."

Lastly, an excerpt on the athletic wing Fibleuil:

"The french Jaylen Clark? You better believe it. The 6-6 Fibleuil has natural defensive instincts and should be able to make an instant impact on that end of the floor. He’ll replace some of the intangibles that Clark left behind when he left Westwood for the NBA following last season."

All three played quite well in the exhibition win. Starting at point guard, Mack scored 23 points on 9/14 shooting to go along with 7 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal.

As the first lead guard off the bench, Vide efficiently scored 12 points in only 23 minutes. He made 3/5 shot attempts from the floor but also got to the line a team-high nine times (making six of those attempts). Vide also had two blocks.

Last but certainly not least is Fibleuil. Starting at one of the wing spots, Fibleuil notched a double-double -- scoring 10 points and collecting a team-high 10 rebounds in only 26 minutes. His activity on the defense end was noticeable, and his length -- coupled with a real nose for the ball -- made him a nightmare to keep off the glass.
