The University of Missouri announced today that freshmen Negus Webster-Chan and Dominique Bull will be transferring. Bull’s decision does not come as a surprise, as he barely received any playing time last season. The news about Webster-Chan’s transfer, however, comes as more of a shock. #Mizzou announces that freshman guards Negus Webster-Chan and Dominique Bull have decided to transfer. — Terez A. Paylor (@TerezPaylor) April 2, 2013 Yet, Webster-Chan’s transfer makes sense. The freshman point guard struggled this year handling the ball and fell out of favor with Frank Haith towards the end of the season, after starting some games in non-conference play. By the time the conference tournament hit, Webster-Chan was only playing sparingly. In addition, his playing time probably would have dwindled more next season as he would have remained behind Phil Pressey, Earnest Ross, and Jabari Brown in the rotation. Add in transfer Jordan Clarkson, who just finished sitting out last year, and Wes Clark, who is coming in as a highly touted freshman, and Webster-Chan would have spent a lot of time on the bench. The transfers of Webster-Chan and Bull open up two scholarships for the Missouri basketball program. Phil Pressey has yet to announce whether he is coming back for his senior season or heading to the NBA, so a third scholarship may open up, although everyone hopes that it doesn’t. Seton Hall transfer Aaron Cosby has narrowed down his list of possible destinations to Mizzou and Illinois, so if he chooses the Tigers, one of the scholarship openings will be filled soon.
