While we are in the midst of the college football season, here is a small tidbit about a former North Carolina basketball player. Scott Williams (6’10″/230 lbs), who was a McDonald’s All American in 1986, played under the tuteledge of Dean Smith while at Carolina, has decided to take a job as an assistant coach with the Idaho Stampede, which is part of the National Basketball Development League. Williams leaves broadcasting in order to take on this new challenge.

After four years in Chapel Hill, where he played both power forward or center, Williams entered the National Basketball Association as an undrafted free agent picked up by the Chicago Bulls. He exited it after 15 years and three NBA Titles, which he earned with the Bulls in `91, `92 and `93, having scored 3,825 points (5.1 per game), having grabbed 3,506 (4.7 per game) and 421 blocks. And while the hardware and the longevity of his career are great Williams might be best known for being one of only two players to have been team mates with Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

With Williams taking this job in the NBDL I will make sure to follow the Stampede to see how is team is doing. As I do with all present and former Tar Heels let me congratulate Scott Williams in his next chapter of his career. And as usual, for more information about North Carolina basketball and/or football, teams or players, present and past, make sure to come back to isportsweb!
