Coming into the season both Notre Dame and Minnesota where expected to be bubble teams. Meaning they would be on the verge of making the NCAA tournament all season. However all that changed this week when both of there star players tore their ACL’s and will miss the remainder of the season. Both players where so vital to their team that both Minnesota and Notre Dame have no shot of making the NCAA tournament now.
Minnesota forward Trevor Mbakwe tore his ACL in Sunday 86-70 lost to Dayton. So far this season Mbakwe was averaging 14.0 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. By season end Mbakwe was likely to average a double double. He was one of the most dominant big guys in the country. He was so strong and powerful.
Last season Mbakwe led the Big Ten in rebounding (10.5) and averaged a double double for the season. He was also the Golden Gophers leading scorer (13.9).
