America Least:
In the last two days, the AE has gone 1-2 against the Patriot League and 0-1 against the Ivy. Just when we were all getting used to chalking them all up as victories.
Personally, I blame mid-majority for jinxing it all.
It seems as though there was a bit of a hangover from high, emotion filled games. Albany, coming off a high octane atmosphere and battle with cross-town rival Siena, blew a 15 point lead to lose 65-64 to Lehigh. Perhaps the Danes are showing signs of their inexperience when faced with a formidable foe, or should we simply understand they were due for a letdown game? Earlier I had pointed to the Lehigh game as a game of importance for us to determine where we can officially stand on Albany. Losing this game humanizes them in a way because it is a team they should have beat, but at the same time we can't discount them for one game. If they hit a skid and lose two games out of the next three, well, that humanizes them a lot, but does it also just mean they were due for a slump? Albany, as impressive as they have been in getting the job done and winning games, still have a lot of questions. I think we all can know what they bring to the table, but how that translates into wins and losses, I don't know that we can be authoritative in saying we know they will be good or average for the season.
Binghamton beats a Big East team, then goes out and loses to Bucknell, who is not the Bucknell circa 2005-2007. Oh yeah, did anyone mention the Bearcats shot a resounding 0% from three? not to mention jacking up 68 shots in the game and connecting on 39.7% of them from the field. I don't care if Theo Davis can come in and change everything for them, if they run around shooting piss poor with reckless abandonment they aren't going anywhere.
Hartford lost to Brown, thus making them 3-7 on the season and the AE 9-2 against the Ivy League. The only thing the Hawks can hope for now is to not enter the conference schedule with double-digit losses. So basically, beat Sacred Heart because I don't think beating Baylor and Stanford is plausible.
UNH lost to URI. Not a real shock.
Interesting stat to pass along courtesy of Tony Lee who writes for examiner.com (good reading!):
As of 12/10 there are only seven conferences in the nation with more teams above .500 than the America East's seven. Those leagues: the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10, SEC and A-10.
That probably is subject to change (read #5 Oklahoma vs. Maine tonight, that is the only given) but it still is nice to see, and further proof that the league has gotten stronger since the year before.
