The Cardinal Connect:
Less than 24-hours after winning the 2013 Big East tournament title, Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals were rewarded by earning the top overall seed in this year’s NCAA tournament. Louisville has won ten consecutive games and is without a doubt the hottest team in the country. Here are some of Pitino’s comments via a press release from the university.
“We are ecstatic to be the number one seed, particularly after finishing off one the greatest conferences in the history of college basketball with a BIG EAST Championship. Our players showed incredible grit to come back from 16 points down. We know we will be challenged right away in one of the toughest brackets that I’ve seen in quite some time. I think our guys are up for the challenge. We look forward to it.”
It’s nice to see Louisville being rewarded for their solid run over the last month. However, the Midwest region is without a doubt the toughest of the four. Pitino and the team landed in Louisville just moments befor...

There are several numbers you can point to if you want to make the argument it'll be Rick Pitino's Louisville team that cuts down the nets in Atlanta on April 8.
Point to the fact that the Cardinals' pressure-filled defense is second in the nation in steals per game and turnover margin, behind only Virginia Commonwealth. Mention that they're second in the nation...
Here is a brief video with some of Rick Pitino’s comments on Louisville being the number one overall seed and the potential match-ups in the Midwest region. Video courtesy of @TerryMeiners
For the second time in five years, the Louisville Cardinal Basketball program has been given the number one overall seed in the NCAA tournament.
Rick Pitino’s team will be the number one seed in the Midwest region. They’ll take on the winner of Liberty and North Carolina State who are both 16 seeds and will play in one of the play-in games.
Louisville claming the number one overall...
The Louisville Cardinals have shown that they are comfortable being front-runners in their season-long quest to go further than last year's Final Four appearance.
Now, they enter the NCAA tournament as the overall No 1 seed. A familiar position for this squad, which was ranked No. 2 to start the season and was the preseason favorite to win the Big East.
Last year Louisville...
I don’t think anyone will be complaining about multiple Louisville – Syracuse Big East Championship highlights. VillenHD is in postseason form and didn’t disappoint with this one. Enjoy.
How awesome was Montrezl Harrell?
Louisville's stunning second-half comeback to beat Syracuse in Saturday night's Big East tournament final brought us something we've had very little of during this wild college basketball season: A sense of certainty.
What's been certain in college hoops this year? Not much. Not which team is No. 1 in the country. Every time there's been one, that team loses...
It's the end of an era as both of these teams will be headed to a new conference next season. In the begining it appeared as if it would be a game fitting of the end of the Big East as it is currently known--Louisville vs. Syracuse; No. 4 vs. No. 19; Rick Pitino vs. Jim Boeheim.
Yes, sports fans, this one had the making of a great one. For one half it looked like it as the...
March madness is probably all ready making some people mad. The Vegas odds makers are saying that Louisville or Indiana is their clear favorites to win. They set the odds of Louisville returning to the final four at 9/2 and they have Indiana at 7/2. Yes these are great powerful basketball teams, the fact is there are many teams that could do just as well. Duke and Kansas both come...
Here's a look at the top seeds in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, and why they will -- or won't -- reach the Final Four:
LOUISVILLE (Midwest region)
Why they'll be playing in Atlanta: Defense, defense, defense. That's what wins championships, right? Well, that's what Rick Pitino teaches. The single statistic he takes most pride in with his teams is the number...
Go ahead. Fill out that bracket. I just did, and I couldn't feel better about it. I'm taking all your money, fools.
I feel utterly confident in my upset picks (like 13th-seeded South Dakota State over No. 4 Michigan, or 11th-seed Bucknell making it all the way to the Sweet 16, or ninth-seeded Wichita State being the first team to dump a No. 1 seed). If my upset picks don...

The Midwest Region is lead by the Louisville Cardinals who finished 29-5, won the Big East tournament, and were granted the top overall seed. However, playing in a bracket with Duke & Michigan State, this is no easy journey to Atlanta. The only positive is that they will only have to face one of the two powerhouses.
