It’s just the start of the college basketball season but don’t fault University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino if he had some visions of spring on Saturday. The Pitino-owned horse Goldencents is on the road to the Kentucky Derby after scoring a victory in the $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot.
BEST OF MAXIM
Rick Pitino made his return to the blogging world yesterday afternoon with a post at RickPitino.com, recapping Louisville’s 80-54 win over Samford. Below is an excerpt with some feedback from Coach P on the individual performances.
* Russ is playing terrific. Has to get loose ball rebounds and once every blue moon create an assist. (LOL) Impressed with his energy and desire to...
Rick Pitino met with the media this afternoon to preview the Battle 4 Atlantis, but as you can expect the conversation quickly shifted to the conference realignment news that has dominated the headlines in the past 48 hours. As you can expect, Coach Pitino didn’t shy away from sharing his opinion on the whole thing.
Here is a video of Coach Pitino’s comments courtesy of Courier...
Prior to the official start of the 2012-13 season, Rick Pitino had some interesting comments about the outside shooting of this year’s team. Pitino said perimeter shooting wouldn’t be this team’s strength, but it also wasn’t going to be a huge weakness. He described his team as a good scoring team, but not a good shooting team.
I realize we’re only two games into the regular...
John Gasaway, a college basketball insider for ESPN isn’t impressed with Rick Pitino’s squad.
Each week ESPN releases their college basketball power rankings. This ranking system is compiled by votes from 18 different ESPN writers, analyst, bloggers and researchers.
17 of the 18 voting ballots had the Louisville Cardinals at either number one or number two. John Gasaway decided...
Almost scary. So easy.
Teams are going to have a tough time scoring on the University of Louisville this season if UofL’s 80-39 romp over Miami of Ohio is an indication of things to come. The long arms, the intensity, the unrelenting press creating chaos for the visitors.
While Rick Pitino may not be blessed with a bevy of good shooters, they are quite capable of forcing mistakes...
I realize Louisville faced a much inferior opponent this afternoon in Miami (OH), but regardless, the performance we saw this afternoon was pretty damn impressive.
The improvement in shooting from Thursday to today obviously helped, but it wasn’t just the shooting that helped Louisville cruise to a — beat down. In regards to the outside shooting, I don’t expect to Louisville...
Junior Russ Smith scored 23 points and Louisville hit 12 three-point field goals in an 80-39 romp over Miami (Ohio). The Cardinals led by as much as 48 points.
Daniel Brown may be able to play against UConn on Senior Day. If not, Strong says he should definitely be back against Rutgers next week.
The bye-week helped the Cards put the Syracuse game behind them, says Strong.
Other than Senorise Perry’s injury, the team is physically healthy overall. Lorenzo Mauldin and DeAngelo Brown are questionable, but could both play this week.
Tough weekend for University of Louisville football diehards.
Trying to make sense of a 45-26 beating at Syracuse, hoping it was an aberration, not a trend. Knowing that a previously undefeated team, that wasn’t getting better, now has the full attention of Charlie Strong. Forced to wait another week for the arrival of UConn at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.
Safe to surmise...
Goldencents led from start to finish to win the $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot on Saturday.
Goldencents, ridden by Kevin Krigger and trained by Doug O'Neill, beat Bern Identity by three-quarters of a length, running 1 1/16 miles in 1 minute, 44.89 seconds. The winner paid $7.20 in the field of nine 2-year-olds.
Mylute was third.
Goldencents, the morning-line 5-2 favorite,...
