Three months ago, No. 23 Louisville's trip to Pittsburgh looked like a pivotal showdown between perennial Big East powers. Instead, it's battle for survival. A year after winning the conference regular season title, Pitt (11-8, 0-6 Big East) has lost seven straight and is languishing in last place. The Panthers have struggled without point guard Tray Woodall, who could return after playing just once over the last two months due to groin and abdominal injuries. Pitt won't get any sympathy from the injury-ravaged Cardinals (14-5, 2-4), who are dealing with a series of issues to key players, including forward Rakeem Buckles, who tore the ACL in his left knee in a loss to Marquette on Monday and is out for the rest of this season and all of next season.

Blackshear still hurting, not practicing

Rick Pitino continues trying to be outwardly optimistic at his pre-game press conferences these days despite receiving a daily dose of bad news from trainer Fred Hina.“The attitude of his team is off the charts, they work their butts off, and they don’t get discouraged,” he said. “This will help them win games. I don’t which games they will be, but wins will come.”But...

College Gameday was at Pittsburgh because the Louisville Cardinals are coming to town to try and take down the Panthers. The College Gameday signs did not disappoint where a sign where a sign read “JAY BILAS THE TRILLEST”. This has to be one of the best signs ever shown on television. Anvoots shows leadership for Strong's class

If there was a Mr. Louisville award for Charlie Strong's 2012 recruiting class it would go to Sid Anvoots. A promising 6'4, 290-pound offensive lineman from Indianapolis, IN., Anvoots might not be the most decorated member of Louisville's nationally-ranked recruiting class, but no one has exemplified more Cardinal spirit than the three-star prospect.

Blackshear setback?

Rick Pitino had been hoping to have Wayne Blackshear back in the lineup for Louisville's game Jan. 25 against Villanova. But trainer Fred Hina said Wednesday night that the former Chicago star guard might not be ready until mmid-February, if at all this season.

It seemed like a good idea three months ago. Pittsburgh. Louisville. The Big East's winningest team over the last decade against a club ranked in the preseason Top 10 in a rivalry that's developed into one the best in the league since the Cardinals joined in 2005. Throw it in primetime in late January to give it a big-game feel. What could go wrong, right? Turns out, just...
