Cincinnati's offense has been a sour spot in Big East play. Cincinnati is averaging 0.98 points per possession. Their season average is 1.03. For some reference, Cincinnati averaged 1.05 points per possession in Big East play last season. A big reason why UC has so much trouble scoring is that they don't get much production from the 4 men that primarily play the 4 and 5 spots. Those men are Justin Jackson, Titus Rubles, Cheikh Mbodj and David Nyarsuk. Obviously a lot of the team plays worse during losses. There are no 100-99 losses on the Cincinnati box scores. Since UC has won and lost roughly the same amount of games, let's take a look at the production from those four players the last 16 games. The wins and losses will be put into separate categories. There is also going to be a quick look at the correlation between the big men production and the guard production just because that's interesting. To me at least.  Cheikh Mbodj Wins Pittsburgh Mbodj 3-8, 6 points. 0-0 FTs. 5 rebounds, 3 offensive. 0 assists. 1 steal. 1 block. 1 turnover. 5 fouls. 19 minutes Rutgers Mbodj 0-2, 2 points. 2-2 FTs. 3 rebounds, 1 offensive. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 4 fouls. 19 minutes DePaul Mbodj 2-3, 6 points. 2-3 FTs. 3 rebounds. 0 assists. 0 steals. 7 blocks. 1 turnover. 1 foul.  21 minutes Marquette Mbodj 0-1, 2 points. 2-2 FTs. 1 rebound, 1 offensive. 0 assists. 0 steals. 2 blocks. 1 turnover. 5 fouls. 13 minutes Rutgers Mbodj 5-7, 10 points. 0-0 FTs. 5 rebounds, 4 offensive. 1 assist. 0 steals. 2 blocks. 1 turnover. 4 fouls. 24 minutes.  Seton Hall Mbodj 2-5, 7 points. 3-4 FTs. 7 rebounds, 4 offensive. 1 assist. 0 steals. 5 blocks. 1 turnover. 4 fouls. 27 minutes Villanova Mbodj 1-4, 2 points. 0-0 FTs. 1 rebound. 0 assists. 0 steals. 3 blocks. 0 turnovers. 4 fouls. 21 minutes Wins total  Mbodj 13-30, 43%. 9-11 FTs, 81.8%. 35 points. 25 rebounds, 13 offensive. 2 assists. 1 steal. 20 blocks. 5 turnover. 27 fouls. 144 minutes   Losses New Mexico Mbodj 2-3, 4 points. 0-0 FTs. 10 rebounds, 6 offensive. 1 assist. 0 steals. 3 blocks. 1 turnover. 3 fouls. 31 minutes St John's Mbodj 1-7, 3 points. 1-2 FTs. 10 rebounds, 2 offensive. 1 assist. 1 steal. 1 block. 2 turnovers. 2 fouls. 30 minutes.  Notre Dame Mbodj 4-4, 8 points. 0-0 FTs. 3 rebounds. 0 assists. 0 steals. 4 blocks. 0 turnovers. 4 fouls. 17 minutes.  Syracuse Mbodj 3-4, 9 points. 3-4 FTs. 6 rebounds, 2 offensive. 1 assist. 0 steals. 1 block. 1 turnover. 3 fouls. 30 minutes Providence Mbodj 1-3, 6 points. 4-4 FTs. 3 rebounds, 2 offensive. 0 assists. 0 steal. 1 block. 2 turnovers. 5 fouls. 22 minutes Pittsburgh Mbodj 1-2, 4 points. 2-4 FTs. 1 rebound. 0 assists. 0 steals. 1 block. 0 turnovers. 4 fouls. 17 minutes Georgetown Mbodj 0-0, 3 points. 3-4 FTs. 7 rebounds, 4 offensive. 0 assists. 0 steals. 5 blocks. 1 turnover. 3 fouls. 31 minutes Connecticut Mbodj 1-3, 4 points. 2-2 FTs. 4 rebounds, 2 offensive. 0 assist. 0 steals. 4 blocks. 0 turnovers. 1 foul. 24 minutes Notre Dame Mbodj 2-6, 4 points. 0-2 FTs. 4 rebounds, 2 offensive. 0 assist. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 4 fouls. 19 minutes Losses total  Mbodj 15-32, 47%. 15-22 FTs, 68%. 45 points. 48 rebounds, 20 offensive. 3 assist. 1 steals. 20 blocks. 7 turnover. 29 fouls. 191 minutes Wins average 1.8-4.3, 5 points. 1.3-1.6 FTs. 3.6 rebounds, 1.9 offensive. 0.3 assists. 0.1 steals. 2.9 blocks. 0.7 turnovers. 3.9 fouls. 2 disqualifications. 20.6 minutes Losses average 1.7-3.6, 5 points. 1.7-2.4 FTs. 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 offensive. 0.3 assists. 0.1 steals. 2.2 blocks. 0.8 turnovers. 3.2 fouls. 1 disqualification. 21.2 minutes.  Mbodj is playing 50% of the minutes in wins and 52% of the minutes in losses. What's interesting here are the shooting percentages. The higher total in the losses gives the appearance that he's taking better shots. If you remember the first ND game, that was absolutely the case because they didn't guard him at all. The offensive rebounding sticks out in a huge way as well. More of his shot attempts come on put backs in that scenario. He doesn't make a lot, but there are more attempts. The first two losses really skew this. He hasn't had 20 rebounds total in the last 3 games, yet there are 20 at the top. I would dare say the more aggressive Mbodj is, fouls included, the better UC plays.  Justin Jackson Wins Pittsburgh Jackson 1-3, 4 points. 2-2 FTs. 3 rebounds, 1 offensive. 0 assists. 1 steal. 1 block. 0 turnovers. 2 fouls. 20 minutes Rutgers Jackson 2-4, 6 points. 2-4 FTs. 8 rebounds, 4 offensive. 1 assist. 0 steals. 2 blocks. 0 turnovers. 2 fouls. 24 minutes DePaul Jackson 0-0, 2 points. 2-2 FTs. 4 rebounds, 1 offensive. 1 assist. 0 steals. 1 block. 2 turnovers. 3 fouls. 12 minutes Marquette Jackson 2-3, 4 points. 0-1 FTs. 3 rebounds, 1 offensive. 0 assist. 0 steals. 1 block. 1 turnover. 5 fouls. 16 minutes Rutgers Jackson 3-8, 7 points. 1-2 FTs. 7 rebounds, 4 offensive. 3 assist. 1 steal. 6 blocks. 3 turnovers. 2 fouls. 26 minutes Seton Hall Jackson 1-1, 3 points. 1-2 FTs. 5 rebounds, 2 offensive. 4 assists. 3 steals. 1 block. 2 turnovers. 1 foul. 20 minutes Villanova Jackson 0-0, 0 points. 0-0 FTs. 3 rebounds. 1 assist. 0 steals. 1 block. 3 turnovers. 3 fouls. 21 minutes.  Wins Total Jackson 9-19, 47%. 8-12 FTs, 67%. 26 points. 33 rebounds, 13 offensive. 9 assists. 5 steal. 13 blocks. 11 turnovers. 18 fouls. 139 minutes Losses New Mexico Jackson 0-6, 0 points. 0-0 FTs. 5 rebounds, 3 offensive. 1 assist. 3 steals. 1 block. 0 turnovers. 0 fouls. 21 minutes St John's  Jackson 0-2, 0 points. 0-0 FTs. 1 rebound. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 2 turnovers. 4 fouls. 16 minutes Notre Dame  Did not play Syracuse Jackson 1-3, 4 points. 2-2 FTs. 5 rebounds, 1 offensive. 1 assist. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 0 fouls. 14 minutes Providence Jackson 2-4, 5 points. 1-3 FTs. 9 rebounds, 1 offensive. 4 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 3 turnovers. 5 fouls. 20 minutes Pittsburgh - Jackson was injured in this game Jackson 1-3, 3 points. 1-1 FTs. 1 rebound, 1 offensive. 1 assist. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 0 fouls. 7 minutes.  Georgetown Jackson 1-3, 5 points. 3-8 FTs. 8 rebounds, 5 offensive. 2 assists. 1 steal. 3 blocks. 2 turnovers. 2 fouls. 21 minutes Connecticut Jackson 2-3, 4 points. 0-0 FTs. 3 rebounds. 1 assist. 0 steals. 1 block. 3 turnovers. 5 fouls. 21 minutes Notre Dame Jackson 1-3, 2 points. 0-0 FTs. 2 rebounds, 1 offensive. 0 assists. 0 steals. 2 blocks. 2 turnovers. 5 fouls. 17 minutes Losses total Jackson 8-27, 29.6%. 7-14 FTs, 50%. 23 points. 34 rebounds, 12 offensive. 10 assist. 4 steals. 7 blocks. 14 turnovers. 31 fouls. 137 minutes   Wins average 1.3-2.7 field goals. 1.1-1.7 free throws. 3.7 points. 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 offensive. 1.3 assists. 0.7 steals. 1.9 blocks. 1.6 turnovers. 2.6 fouls. 1 disqualification.19.9 minutes Losses average 1-3.4 FGs, 0.8-1.7 FTs. 2.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 offensive. 1.25 assists. 0.5 steals. 0.9 blocks. 1.75 turnovers. 3.9 fouls. 3 disqualifications. 17.1 minutes.  Jackson attempts more shots in losses, which is kind of curious. All of his numbers are dramatically better in wins. If you take out the Pittsburgh game where Jackson was injured, he is only playing 18.6 minutes. He's fouled out of the last 2 games. Like Mbodj, when Jackson is hitting the offensive glass the team is better. It's not rocket science at what this team needs from the big men. They need rebounds and shot blocking.  Titus Rubles Wins Pittsburgh Rubles 1-3, 5 points. 3-3 FTs. 4 rebounds, 2 offensive. 3 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 3 fouls. 16 minutes.  Rutgers Rubles 2-5, 7 points. 3-6 FTs. 11 rebounds, 2 offensive. 0 assists. 1 steal. 1 block. 3 turnovers. 2 fouls. 26 minutes DePaul Rubles 0-1, 2 points. 2-4 FTs. 3 rebounds, 1 offensive. 1 assist. 1 steal. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 4 fouls. 21 minutes Marquette Rubles 1-8, 12 points. 10-12 FTs. 10 rebounds, 4 offensive. 2 assists. 1 steal. 2 blocks. 3 turnovers. 2 fouls. 35 minutes Rutgers Rubles 1-1, 6 points. 4-6 FTs. 4 rebounds, 1 offensive. 2 assists. 1 steal. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 1 foul. 18 minutes Seton Hall Rubles 0-1, 2 points. 2-2 FTs. 6 rebounds. 1 assist. 1 steal. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 2 fouls. 20 minutes.  Villanova Rubles 1-5, 4 points. 2-2 FTs. 4 rebounds, 3 offensive. 3 assists. 3 steals. 0 blocks. 3 turnovers. 2 fouls. 25 minutes Wins Total Rubles 6-24, 25%. 26-35 FTs, 74.3%. 38 points. 42 rebounds, 13 offensive. 12 assists. 8 steals. 0 blocks. 13 turnovers. 16 fouls. 161 minutes.  Losses New Mexico Rubles 1-6, 2 points. 0-0 FTs. 2 rebounds. 1 assist. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 3 turnovers. 0 fouls. 15 minutes St John's Rubles 4-8, 14 points. 3-6 FTs. 3 rebounds. 2 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 2 turnovers. 2 fouls. 22 minutes Notre Dame  Rubles 1-9, 2 points. 0-0 FTs. 7 rebounds, 1 offensive. 5 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 2 fouls. 25 minutes Syracuse  Rubles 2-5, 5 points. 1-1 FTs. 6 rebounds, 5 offensive. 5 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 1 foul. 30 minutes Providence Rubles 0-3, 0 points. 0-0 FTs. 4 rebounds, 2 offensive. 1 assist. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 1 foul. 19 minutes Pittsburgh Rubles 2-9, 8 points. 4-5 FTs. 8 rebounds, 3 offensive. 1 assist. 1 steal. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 3 fouls. 24 minutes Georgetown Rubles 2-6, 4 points. 0-3 FTs. 3 rebounds, 1 offensive. 1 assist. 1 steal. 0 blocks. 2 turnovers. 3 fouls. 20 minutes Connecticut Rubles 3-6, 7 points. 1-2 FTs. 5 rebounds, 3 offensive. 0 assists. 1 steal. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 5 fouls. 21 minutes Notre Dame Rubles 2-6, 7 points. 3-6 FTs. 7 rebounds, 1 offensive. 1 assist. 1 steal. 1 block. 0 turnovers. 2 fouls. 22 minutes Losses Total Rubles 17-58, 29.3%. 12-23 FTs, 52%. 49 points. 43 rebounds, 16 offensive. 17 assists. 4 steals. 1 block. 11 turnovers. 19 fouls. 198 minutes   Wins Average 0.9-3.4 FGs, 3.7-5 FTs. 5.4 points. 5.9 rebounds, 1.9 offensive. 1.7 assists. 1.1 steals. 1.9 turnovers. 2.3 fouls. 23 minutes   Losses Average 1.9-7.2 FGs. 1.3-2.6 FTs. 6.1 points. 5.4 rebounds, 1.8 offensive. 1.9 assists. 0.4 steals. 0.1 blocks. 1.2 turnovers. 2.1 fouls. 1 disqualification. 22 minutes.  Interesting numbers here from Rubles. He takes a larger percentage of shots when the team is losing. That's an interesting stat. He hasn't been good at all from the field, which hurts his overall numbers. The big key for Rubles has been getting to the line. When he gets to the line a lot, UC seems to win. When he's making free throws, UC wins. When he's not making his freebies, Cincinnati seems to lose. Rubles' defense is better in terms of stats in the UC victories. Like the other 2, aggressive Rubles is better for Cincinnati.  David Nyarsuk Wins Pittsburgh Nyarsuk 3-3, 6 points. 0-0 FTs. 3 rebounds, 3 offensive. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 2 fouls. 19 minutes Rutgers Nyarsuk 0-1, 0 points. 0-0 FTs. 2 rebounds. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 0 fouls. 6 minutes DePaul Nyarsuk 1-1, 2 points. 0-0 FTs. 3 rebounds, 1 offensive. 1 assist. 0 steals. 3 blocks. 1 turnover. 1 foul. 18 minutes Marquette Nyarsuk 1-4, 2 points. 0-2 FTs. 2 rebounds, 1 offensive. 1 assist. 0 steals. 4 blocks. 1 turnover. 5 fouls. 18 minutes Rutgers Nyarsuk 0-0, 0 points. 0-0 FTs. 0 rebounds. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 0 fouls. 2 minutes Seton Hall Nyarsuk 0-0, 2 points. 2-3 FTs. 2 rebounds, 1 offensive. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 0 fouls. 7 minutes Villanova Nyarsuk 0-0, 0 points. 0-0 FTs. 0 rebounds. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 2 fouls. 4 minutes   Win Totals 5-9 FGs. 2-5 FTs. 12 points. 12 rebounds, 5 offensive. 2 assists. 0 steals. 7 blocks. 3 turnovers. 10 fouls. 1 disqualification. 74 minutes.    Losses New Mexico Nyarsuk 1-1, 2 points. 0-0 FTs. 0 rebounds. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 1 foul. 9 minutes.  St John's Nyarsuk 0-1, 0 points. 0-0 Fts. 0 rebounds. 0 assists. 0 steals. 1 block. 0 turnovers. 0 fouls. 6 minutes Notre Dame Nyarsuk 2-2, 4 points. 0-0 FTs. 3 rebounds. 0 assists. 1 steal. 0 blocks. 1 turnover. 1 foul. 10 minutes Syracuse Nyarsuk 0-1, 0 points. 0-0 FTs. 0 rebounds. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 1 foul. 7 minutes Providence Nyarsuk 1-1, 2 points. 0-0 FTs. 0 rebounds. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 1 foul. 6 minutes Pittsburgh Nyarsuk 0-0, 0 points. 0-0 FTs. 3 rebounds. 1 assist. 0 steals. 1 block. 0 turnovers. 0 fouls. 13 minutes Georgetown Nyarsuk 1-1, 2 points. 0-0 FTs. 0 rebounds. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 0 fouls. 3 minutes Connecticut Nyarsuk 0-0, 0 points. 0-0 FTs. 2 rebounds, 1 offensive. 2 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 1 foul. 13 minutes Notre Dame Nyarsuk 0-1, 0 points. 0-0 FTs. 1 rebound. 0 assists. 0 steals. 0 blocks. 0 turnovers. 2 fouls. 8 minutes Loss Total 5-8 FGs. 0-0 FTs. 10 points. 9 rebounds, 1 offensive. 3 assists. 1 steals. 2 blocks. 1 turnovers. 7 fouls. 75 minutes.    Win Totals 5-9 FGs. 2-5 FTs. 12 points. 12 rebounds, 5 offensive. 2 assists. 0 steals. 7 blocks. 3 turnovers. 10 fouls. 1 disqualification. 74 minutes.  I'm not going to bother to do averages about Dave. When he's hitting the offensive glass and blocking shots, there are wins.  Cashmere Wright is averaging 15.8 points in the 6 wins he's been a part of. He's averaging 8.7 in the losses.  Sean Kilpatrick averages 19.9 points a game in the wins. 13.7 in the losses.  JaQuon Parker is averaging 11.1 points in the wins. 10.7 in the losses.  The proof is in the stats.  As a group, they are averaging 15.9 points, 15.9 rebounds, 6.3 offensive. 3.6 assists. 2 steals. 5.7 blocks. 4.6 turnovers. 10.1 fouls in wins. In the losses, 14.1 points, 14.9 rebounds, 5.4 offensive. 3.7 assists. 1.1 steals. 3.3 blocks. 3.7 turnovers. 9.6 fouls.  Cincinnati isn't going to be very successful if these 4 don't play better. Plain and simple. Cashmere Wright and his struggles are one thing, but 3 of these 4 men play half of the game. Cincinnati can't afford 3 positions on the court to be completely lacking. Finish strong.
