This day in age recruiting classes are only ranked before the recruits actually step foot on campus. I understand the reasoning behind evaluating and ranking prospects prior to college, but I think it would be nice to see a ranking system for how the recruits actually produce at the next level. For example, Kentucky’s 2012 recruiting class probably didn’t deserve the overall No. 1 ranking if you took into consideration how they performed as freshman. Louisville’s 2010 recruiting class wasn’t ranked in the top 30. However, when you consider how Gorgui Dieng (3-star) and Russ Smith (2-star) have turned out, I’d say it looks like a much better class at this point. Rick Pitino is currently working on his fourteenth recruiting class in his tenure. With the current commitments that Pitino has from the 2014 class, this may be his best class ever at Louisville.
