gocards.com Earlier today, Rutgers University officially announced Julie Hermann as the Scarlet Knights’ new Athletic Director. Hermann is the former Executive Senior Associate Director of Athletics at the University of Louisville, where she served 15 years as a part of the Cardinals’ athletic administration. She has a strong history in athletics, dating back to when she played volleyball for the University of Nebraska from 1981-1984. Hermann has even served on multiple boards, including the Kentucky Sports Commission.  For the Rutgers Athletic Director position, Hermann was selected from a pool of 63 candidates and will officially start her new position June 17, 2013.  Hermann will have a lot on her plate, as the school has received a great deal of negative attention recently. Mike Rice, the former men’s basketball head coach at Rutgers, was fired in the beginning of April after a video surfaced of him physically and emotionally abusing his players. Soon after, Rutgers’ AD, Tim Pernetti, resigned after it was learned that he’d seen the footage back in December. And just this past week, there was some controversy regarding new basketball coach Eddie Jordan and whether the school lied about his resume. Still, Hermann is excited about her opportunity and is looking forward to working with the Rutgers community.  According to Rutgers Athletics, Hermann said “Rutgers is poised to soar.” She continued on to say “the university is positioned to create a best-in-class experience for every student who accepts the challenge to learn and compete at Rutgers.”  She is the first woman to maintain a position of this stature at Rutgers University.  Julie Hermann: “I can’t tell you how privileged I am to join this Athletic Department.” — Rutgers Athletics (@RUAthletics) May 15, 2013
