Siena’s Power Forward O.D Anosike has been…for lack of a better verb, “Kevin Love’n” it real hard this season. In fact O. D has more double-doubles this season than any other college player with 17, and they all came in a row. He even has more than Thomas Robinson (15), Kevin Jones (15), and Arnett Moultrie (13). Unfortunately last night, St.Peters held Anosike one point shy from complimenting his 13 rebounds for an 18th straight double-double. The streak started on November 6th 2011 and officially ended February 2nd 2012.
Let’s go over some events that have happened during the streak:
- The NBA Lockout ended
- Robert Griffin III won the Heisman
- North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il died
- Packers suffered their first lost in their almost undefeated season
- Bernie Fine is accused of child molestation
- We started a new year
- Alabama beat LSU in the National Championship
- Bernie Fine is no longer accused of child molestation
- Drew Brees and Tom Brady broke Dan Marino’s passing record
- Joe Paterno passed away
- Josh Hamilton relapsed
Specifically for Siena, during O.D’s streak they went 8-9 making their overall record 10-12, leaving them in 6th place in the MAAC. The big man’s highs for points were 27, and for rebounds he totaled for a high of 18. Currently the junior is averaging 15.1 ppg and 12.8 rpg (8.4 defensive, 4.4 offensive), which puts him as the leading rebounder in the NCAA. As far as his shooting, Anosike is a solid 51% from the field, which is only 1% better than his FT%… =/
Anosike has made a huge improvements from last year, his sophomore year he averaged 8.9 ppg, 6.8 rpg in 28.4 mpg. I think if O.D Anoskie stays for his senior year to develop his offense it will definitely help his draft stock. When Kenneth Faried stayed for his final season at Morehead State he averaged 17.2 ppg and 14.5 rpg in 34.7 mpg. There’s no reason why Anosike can’t average 18 and 14 next season. I haven’t seen him on any mock drafts but that could change soon because O.D is completely flying under the radar.
