It may be maddeningly inconsistent and spurt-like, but at least Stanford is scoring. An 8-0 run to close the half, courtesy some hot shooting from John Gage and Andy Brown, has Stanford ahead of USC at halftime, 42-33.
BEST OF MAXIM
In Stanford's celebratory post-game locker room, we grabbed a few minutes with redshirt junior outside linebacker Trent Murphy, one of the more impressive player development stories of the 2013 season - and not only because he was selected aptly as the "honorary carver" at this year's Lawry's Beef Bowl! One of the hard-working players whom we were most happy...
We caught up with Stanford's wide-smiling veteran cornerback Terrence Brown in the post-game locker room following Stanford's hard-nosed 20-14 victory over Wisconsin in the 2013 Rose Bowl. Brown and his fellow members of the hard-hitting Cardinal secondary helped Stanford shut down and shut out a previously prolific Badgers offense in the second half!
Among the numerous recent Cardinal players on the Stanford sideline at the 2013 Rose Bowl was 2010 Paul Hornung Award-winner Owen Marecic, whom former Card coach Jim Harbaugh once famously dubbed 'the perfect football player'. Owen has got to be the most modest pro football player on the planet, but he was happy to praise his former Stanford teammates including long-locked FB Ryan Hewitt!
The Bootleg caught up with an exuberant Stanford senior Jamal-Rashad Patterson in the frenzied aftermath of the Cardinal's 20-14 victory over Wisconsin in the 2013 Rose Bowl. Patterson's terrific grab of fellow wide receiver Drew Terrell's long option pass on the opening drive led to Stanford's first touchdown!
After glorious victory in the 99th Rose Bowl was secured, it was a crazy scene down on the field, with Stanford players running, hugging and high-five-ing all takers! The Bootleg caught DE Josh Mauro and asked him about the amazing jump he got on the Badgers' snap count that led to a rather spectacular defensive stuff late in the contest, when the Stanford Defense was asserting its iron will.
