Kyrie Irving may hint that he plans to play overseas if the NBA lockout doesnt end, but hinting and actually doing it are two different things entirely. Irving is a 6-foot-2 point guard out of Duke, and was selected No. 1 overall by Cleveland in the June draft. His hint came via his Twitter account, where he wrote, If a deal doesnt get done soon overseas here I come. But fear not, Cavaliers fans. Its highly unlikely to happen. For one, there arent any jobs. Most international leagues are well into their seasons and have already signed the allotted amount of American players (typically two per team). Secondly, nobody is going to give Irving the type of money he wants. Not at this stage. So he would be better off going the Delonte West route and get a job moving furniture. Finally, by most accounts, the majority of American pros playing internationally right now are fairly miserable. They dont know the language, they dont like the food, and the franchises and fans dont share near the passion of what is experienced in the NBA. Theres also the fact Irving doesnt have an NBA contract. So if he signs in Poland or Spain or France and gets injured well, his next tweet might read, Overseas here I stay. Irving is a great kid and is probably wise to act like he is keeping his options open. But actually going through with playing professionally overseas is a bad idea. If Irving doesnt know that now, he will long before he ever grabs his basketball and hops on an airplane bound for some far off land.
