Recently the Chicago Cubs have been doing much more to spark positive conversation. They have won 6 of their last 9 which isn't incredibly good but at least they are sticking around in the NL Central. With the Brewers losing 19 of their last 29 it seems that Chicago still has a very good chance to take over the division and possibly win it outright at the end of the season. This is all great but just as many Cubs fans feel, I am not sold yet on this team and their future. However something that I cannot help but notice is the bright young talent that has been placed on the roster as of late. With names like Ryan Theriot, Felix Pie and Mike Fontenot you would think the north siders would be in a world of trouble. But these young prospects are not only showing that they are a valuable commodity, but they may be the future of this organization. Felix Pie has finally learned patients at the plate and has a home in the 2 slot of the batting order. This isn't a bad place to be seeing you are surrounded by greats like Alfonzo Soriano and Derek Lee. Ryan Theriot has turned into a reliable everyday player and is batting a solid .274. Mike Fontenot came up with the injury to Henry Blanco and is doing very well in the 5 games he has played with a .462 batting average including a home run, a triple and two doubles. You add all three of these players together with Rich Hill (2.71era) and Sean Marshall (2.08era) and you have a very valuable group of young players. Like all Cubs fans I am running out of patients and I want a championship as soon as I can get one, but the future is looking bright in Wrigley Field. We are all sick of "next year" but next year may not have ever looked this bright.
