That Maryland lost a close one to UNC is not the point. The point is that Maryland, a team of underclassmen thought to be at least a year away from anything, was able to push a star-studded, No. 5-ranked team to the brink.
Bravo to that, and to the continued development of freshman seven-footer Alex Len, who basically took on UNC’s All-American frontcourt by himself. Anyway, two great quotes from the game that was.
One, here’s what Mark Turgeon said after the game, which was punctuated by a John Henson garbage-time, buzzer-beating dunk:
