Found November 19, 2012 on Sox and Dawgs:
It's been since 1986 when the UConn Huskies men's basketball team last lost to an in-state team. Since a 49-48 loss to the Hartford Hawks that year, which happened to be former coach Jim Calhoun's first year at the helm, the Huskies are 66-0 against teams from the state. Late on Sunday night in the 2012 Paradise Jam, they almost saw that streak come to an end. If it weren't for a Shabazz Napier three-pointer late in regulation, we'd be talking about a loss instead of a win. Napier was huge in both overtimes as he made his free throws to help UConn hold off the Quinnipiac Braves 89-83 in double overtime at  the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. UConn improves to 4-0 on the season and will take on the New Mexico Lobos for the 2012 Paradise Jam title on Monday night at 10 p.m. Quinnipiac falls to 2-2 and will face the George Mason Patriots in the consolation game. Napier finished ...

Shabazz Napier Named Big East Player of the Week

A nice honor for the man who carried the UConn Huskies men's basketball team to a 3-0 week last week. Here's the release from UConn: STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut junior guard Shabazz Napier (Roxbury, Mass.) has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, as announced by the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. No. 23 UConn 89, Quinnipiac 83

Shabazz Napier scored 23 of his career-high 29 points in the final 3:24 of regulation and two overtime periods to help No. 23 Connecticut beat Quinnipiac 89-83 Sunday night in the Paradise Jam. UConn (4-0) trailed by 55-45 after Evan Conti's 3-pointer with 4:56 left in regulation. But Ryan Boatright countered with a three-point play and Napier scored 11 of the Huskies' next...

UConn beats Quinnipiac in 2OT

Connecticut continued its 26-year dominance over in-state rivals on Sunday night -- barely. Shabazz Napier scored 23 of his career-high 29 points in the final 3:24 of regulation and two overtime periods, and the 23rd-ranked Huskies survived a major upset bid by Quinnipiac in an 89-83 win at the Paradise Jam. ''It was a hard-fought victory,'' said first-year UConn...

Louisville the perfect addition to ACC

As the anger from traditionalists subsides about Marylands decision to leave 60 years of ACC affiliation for the Big Ten, the ACC must get to work finding a replacement. This should be a quick and relatively painless process if the ACC handles this properly. Not on the board is West Virginia, which moved to the Big 12 a year ago. The Big 12 owns the television rights for 13 years...

New Mexico-UConn Preview

The last time Connecticut played New Mexico, coach Jim Calhoun was guiding the Huskies to their first national title. It didn't appear that rookie coach Kevin Ollie would be leading the 23rd-ranked Huskies into Monday night's championship of the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands, but that's exactly where they'll be after the guard duo of Shabazz Napier and...
