PLAYERS: James Michael McAdoo
TEAMS:
As I watch Sunday Night Football I am trying to catch up with some things dealing with UNC basketball that have gone on in the last week or so which I did not touch upon on this blog. First off, while the hoopla in college basketball continues to be what UK head coach John Calipari keeps doing when it comes to recruiting “one and done’s”, UNC basketball has some news about a player as well. Head coach Roy Williams can say that he has an All American on his roster this season, as James McAdoo made it to the the Sporting News preseason AA first squad. But the best news that coach Williams can give the fan base is that he does not have cancer, as a biopsy revealed that the tumor in his left kidney is also benign.“The result of the biopsy of the tumor on the left side is great news for Coach Williams and his family,” said Dr. Eric Wallen, professor of urology at UNC. “He is recovering very well and we will continue to follow his progress. In the meantime, he can return to his normal schedule, including the team’s first practice on October 13th.”For those that do not remember coach Williams had a tumor removed from his right kidney a short time back. Once it was found that it was benign the doctors had decided that they would do a biopsy to see what the other one in the left kidney was. This was done last Wednesday and a few days later the results came back that it was an oncocytoma (pronounced ON-ko-sigh-TOE-muh), a non-cancerous kidney tumor. That North Carolina has an All American is a great thing, that coach Williams does not have cancer it’s a lot better! There is, in my mind at least, some things that go far beyond the court and this is certainly one of them. Having read some of the UNC basketball web boards where a percentage of the fans are complaining about how the Tar Heel staff have lost out on some of the top recruits of late I say “shame on all of you!” Let’s be thankful that our head coach is doing well, and let’s not worry too much about the recruiting trail, since Williams has been in Chapel Hill the program has always gotten theirs when it comes to five star/McDonald’s All-Americans.In the end I sometimes wish that the fans would worry more about what North Carolina truly is, a storied program that took decades upon decades to build and keep at the highest of levels, and not panic each time a recruiting class is not as high as they want it to be. Unfortunately that statement is a lot easier to type than to let portion of the fan base believe… trust me I have tried! As usual more information about North Carolina basketball and/or football, teams and players, present and past, make sure to check back often on isportsweb!
