If you want to see All Americans this season following UNC Basketball you will see plenty, at least according to CBS Sports, who just released their All-American squads. In all the Tar Heels will face seven of them, two of them twice, as Duke has a pair of sophomore forwards on the list, Jabari Parker (second team) and Rodney Hood (third team). Which, coincidentally, are both 6’8″. Out of conference Carolina will face a pair when it heads to play Michigan State, which they will face in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, in 6’4″ sophomore guard Gary Harris and 6’10″ senior center Adrein Payne. The Heels will face the Spartans on the road on December 4, 2013. Ten days later head coach Roy Williams will have his squad facing three more CBS All-Americans, as UNC hosts Kentucky at the Dean Dome. Those will be first team 6’9″ freshman forward Julius Randles, along with a pair of third teamers in 6’6″ freshman guard Andrew Harrison and seven footer sophomore Willie Cauley-Stein. I guess the bright side of all of this is that if this was a year from now the number of All-American Carolina face would have gone up by one, as Louisville, with six foot senior guard Russ Smith making the grade for CBS as well, as a first teamer nonetheless. If people do not believe that UNC Basketball as a tough out of conference schedule these little tid bit should make some change their minds. In the span of ten days the Tar Heels will play against two Top 10 programs that have at least two All-Americans on it, one on the road and one at home. And while the outcome is going to be important, more so will be what the team can get out of it, and what they will do with it moving forward.
