Hairston via UNC Athletics The North Carolina Tar Heels are playing the waiting game right now, as the NCAA has still not handed down suspensions regarding guards P.J. Hairston and Leslie McDonald. The school is still working with the NCAA regarding compliance issues with the players — Hairston’s case revolves around a rental car that is linked to a convicted felon. Hairston was cited twice for speeding while driving the vehicle, and was arrested a separate time on drug charges. Although the charges from the arrest were later dismissed, it was the connection with the rental car that caught the attention of the NCAA — Hairston himself was not renting it, so officials are determining  if he was receiving improper benefits by using the vehicle regularly. McDonald’s case, on the other hand, centers around a custom mouthguard that he was seen wearing — it was unclear if he purchased it himself or if he was given it, which would be against NCAA rules. Both cases have been under review by the NCAA for months, but no decision has been reach yet, and the players are currently suspended indefinitely. Guard Marcus Paige admitted today that he is very frustrated by the NCAA’s lack of speed in making a decision, as it puts pressure on the team: “I’m honestly extremely frustrated,” Paige says. of the Hairston/McDonald situation “… It’d be nice to know.” — Andrew Carter (@_andrewcarter) November 14, 2013 Paige on Hairston & McDonald status: “It would just be nice to know so we could move on.” — Carolina Basketball (@UNC_Basketball) November 14, 2013 The Tar Heels played their season opener against Oakland without the pair, and their next game is tomorrow night vs. Holy Cross. North Carolina has no idea when a decision will be handed down, but the team is hoping for just hoping for news, good or bad, in the near future.
