John Bohannon had 24 points, 17 rebounds and four blocked shots as UTEP defeated Houston 63-53 Wednesday night. Bohannon hit 8 of 14 field goals and was 8 for 10 at the free-throw line for the Miners (15-12, 8-5 Conference USA). Cedrick Lang added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Joseph Young scored 23 points for Houston (15-11, 4-9). TaShawn Thomas, who had scored at least 20 points in four straight games, was held to nine points. The Cougars shot better than the Miners from the field (38 percent to 35 percent) and the 3-point line (4 for 11 compared to 4 for 21). But Houston committed 17 turnovers and was outrebounded 40-31. UTEP was on top 25-12 in the early going en route to a 36-25 halftime lead. Houston got within 43-41 with 7:08 remaining before the Miners closed the game on a 20-12 run.
